Alexa has been being wened now for a dair few weeks and at the momeny she is on porridge and bottle in morning veg and gravey and bottle for dinner and then baby rice fruit and a bottle for tea and she then has a bottle before bed and if she wakes in the night she has a bottle then aswell. I don't understand when to put her milk down or when to up her solids and take down the milk. All her food is homemade and at the moment is having 2 ic cubes for veg n fruit which works out roughly 2oz !!

Weaning is so complicated and I feel like I have no idea arrghhh

Xxx

I'd stick with what she has, unless she reduces her intake naturally herself, until she's at least 6 months. She's still so young and may not be taking enough food, especially as it's all mostly fruit and vegetables at this stagve, to replace formula.

In an ideal world (ie: the back of the formula carton!) LO is on 5 bottles of roughly 7oz a day at the start of weaning and has reduced to 3 bottles a day by 7 months (assuming then on 3 reasonable meals a day including protein).

Sam started weaning at 6 months, took to it slowly though! I moved the timings of his bottles about a bit (ie: kept them separate from lunch and tea which meant he was feeding more often so more full so wanted less) to help the reducing bottles along but it was him who reduced his intake to 3 bottles by 7 months.

He dropped his nighttime bottle at 7 weeks though.

Found it a very complicated period though and was delighted when he was on 3 bottles as I'm sure you know, 5 bottles and 3 meals feels like being back to sorting out his food and feeding him all day - barely had time to leave the house while that was happening!

In the first three months of weaning (i offered what i would usually give her). She cut down herself after 7mths (when she was eating "proper" amounts of solids.

Once she was eating no more than 90mls (3ozaprox)a bottle i cut it outwith no problems and just increased her solids slightly.

I agree-weaning is a nightmare at the start!

I stuck with Jack's usual feed times of 7, 10, 2, 6 and 10 and gave him his solids in between. Breakfast at 8, lunch at 11.30 dinner at 5. I went by him I think u'l find Alexa will tell you when she doesn't want her milk. Jack started refusing the 10am feed first. He would take a few sucks then stop and grin at me or not open his mouth so I knew he didn't want it. A few weeks later he did the same thing with the 2pm feed. Now he loves his solids so much I'm lucky if he has 2 full feeds a day. I stopped waking him for his 10pm feed once he was well established on 3 meals and now he has a milk feed at 7.30am and his next and last breastfeed at 6.30-7pm but tbh I have to try and force it down him!! Just go with bubs x x

Katie is four months old and I have started weaning her, she has porridge and an 8oz bottle in the morning bottle for lunch bottle and two spoons from jar into a bowl then some fruit at tea then bottle again at bed time.. Some of the time when she is having her solids she will only take 6 of the 8 oz bottle but other times takes the 8oz as well  I just go with her x
