my midwife confused me and said i should go into hosp when my contractions are 3 mins apart lasting 60 secs at a time, this has confused me because i thought you had to have the iv antibiotics 4 hours before delivery? so basically asap! no idea when i should go in. Can anyone whos experianced labour with strep b before give me some advice please :)

thank you :) xxxx

I am also GBS+ and I was told that if they are 10 mins or closer together to go in.... no matter how long they are lasting. Just to be safe so I can make sure I get antibiotics in time :) hope this helps!

tnx u hunny for helpin me i though i was alone :( tnx

I have it too but was just told when I feel I'm in labour to let them know I am strep b +. No mention of established labour mentioned.

I was GSB+ with my first and again with this one. I was told to go in when my contractions are about 5 minutes apart lasting any length of time.

I was told this too with ds2. Have to be there in plenty of time to get 4 hours worth of antibiotics. I didn't want an IV while in labor and I knew that if you didn't arrive in time there's a shot of antibiotics they can give you which works just the same. So I waited till the last minute.. got there in the nick of time, and had the shot. You could always just ask for the shot?

I was told to phone labour and delivery when contractions started (they can then make a decision on you going in depending on how busy they are) or as soon as my waters went (as this is when there is riskmof it passing to baby)...

My waters went at home about 2 hours after I started feeling very mild contractions, so I went in straight away... Hoping I will have contractions for a while first this time as don't want to be away from home long if possible!

Try not to worry about the Strep B, it didn't make my birth experience bad in any way and at the end of the day it's better to know you have it, than not x

I was told to go to the hospital as soon as I feel any contractions or if my waters broke as you have to have the iv anti-biotics 4 hours before the birth if possible so the earlier you go the better.

As it turns out, I was in hospital with cervical bleeding and they decided to induce me early (at 37wks+2 days). They hooked me up to the anti-biotic drip then broke my waters and 1 hour and 15 mins LO was born so I didn't get the 4 hours worth of anti-biotics beforeheand. They kept us both in for 48 hours after the birth so they could monitor LO to check for any signs of the strep B being passed on to her but all was fine. Hope this helps. Jx

When my waters break, or when contractions are 5 minutes apart ( I only laboured for 10 hours last time, so I'm a bit worried that might not be soon enough, but hey ho!) xx

10 minutes apart or if I get show or water breaks. Never heard of the shot. That is interesting!?

tnx u so much girls :) i shall go in when 10 mins apart or if waters break then . tnx for info xxxxxx

I have never heard of the antibiotic shot either... may ask about it next time I see the doctor!

I was GBS +ve with my first and again with this pregnancy. Last time I was just told that when I call the hospital to let them know I'm in labour (either with contractions starting or water breaking), just mention this fact and they'll give you an estimate on when to come in. With my son, my water breaking was the very first thing that happened so it was a no brainer to go in right away anyway. I was only in labour for 5 hours too so I'm a bit worried about how fast this one is going to go!

I had GBS with my 1st and was told to go in when contractions were 3-4mins apart or straight in if my waters broke, my waters didnt go until i got the urge to push and i stayed at home as long as poss went in when contractions were 3.5 mins apart when i got there i was 8cm dilated and had drip straight away it didnt take long for antibiotics to get in so all was ok! My whole labour was only 10.5 hours and was only in hospital 3.5 hours before my DS1 was born! Try not to worry about it, its not so bad and i still managed to have a good labour i was very lucky! :hugs:

ive been told when any contractions are regular or waters break go in

Ok now Im confused...I have had gbs for both previous pregnancies, first one I didn't have the anti bs and second one I did, I was ten days late so induced. Anyway, everyone is saying you need anti biotics for four hours,i believe this to be incorrect, I could be wrong BUT I was told that you need a bag od anti biotics via IV every four hours of labour, it only takes about 20 mons half hour to have the whole bag. I remember worrying terribly about not having four hours of the drug but when I got there the midwife told me it's a bag every four hours not a four hour bag.. If that makes sense.. Also, this time, I've been told that you only get one bag now anyway,, ah who knows,,,

You are correct... it is every 4 hours of labor but they actually want to do it like so many hours before you actually have the baby so you can get a few bags. That is what I am told by my doctor anyways!

I think it all depends where you are and what the doctors are used to doing..

I was told I had to have the antibiotics for 4 hours prior to birth last time. My midwife didn't want to do homebirth as I was GBS+ but said I could have the shot if we got there late, which we did, so that's what I had.

This time round, my midwife isn't bothered at all if I'm GBS+ and said it won't affect me having a hb at all.. we'll test bubs when she's born and if she's + then we'll give her antibiotics

who knows!
