Hello ladies, just a quick question to UK mums. When was the last time you seen your midwife? I seen mine at 19 weeks and consultant at 19+4. I'm not 24+2 weeks and I don't see my midwife until the 22nd July that'll make me around 29 weeks! It feels like a extremely long time to not see my midwife. And I still haven't heard my babies heartbeat. This is my 2nd pregnancy with my first I was seen more due to baby being ill whilst pregnant, my midwife said I'd still be seen more often during this pregnancy but it just seems like I never see my midwife :/

Even when I call them up if I'm feeling anxious which isn't an awful lot I just feel fobbed off by them, I called a few days ago due to extreme pain in my back and right hip due to a cyst on my ovary all they told me to do is lay down and take paracetamol. I do feel slightly pushed as side by my midwife to be honest.

X

I seen mine( well not mine at all, someone at the drop in clinic) at 16 weeks then I will see her at 24 weeks! I am high risk but they don't seem to give a stuff xxx

I had my 16 week appointment and won't be seen until I'm 28 weeks now, and like you didn't get to hear the heartbeat because she said it was still too early. But luckily at my private gender scan Iheard it which was really reassuring

i had an apt at 25 weeks i think its just for ftm but as i am high risk they let me ;) x

I last saw my midwife at 15 weeks. Was meant to see her today but missed the appointment. Not seen a consultant at all this time around!

I don't know why anyone would tell you it's too early to hear your baby's heart beat. I heard mine at 7 weeks via ultrasound and I used my own doppler at home at 11 weeks and could find it just fine. I could have probably found it sooner if I tried but I didn't order the doppler until later. You can find doppler online for cheap if u want to hear your baby.

This is what the guidelines are (here at least, not sure if its the same everywhere but I assume so coz its NHS)

First time mum..
Booking appointment (8-12weeks)
Dating scan
15-16weeks
Scan 18-20weeks
24weeks
28weeks
31weeks
34weeks
36weeks
38weeks
40weeks
41weeks

2nd time + mum
Booking 8-12weeks
Dating scan
15-16weeks
Scan 18-20weeks
28weeks
34weeks
36weeks
38weeks
41weeks

However, midwives in my clinic always try get everybody in for a 24week appointment. But then still skip us 2nd time + mums from 28 to 34 :( personally id rather they skipped the 24 and let us have the 31week instead x

Dont listen to hb till 24w here.

My appts dont follow the pattern for 3rd/4th.

16w 20w i had 24w last time then 28w.

I don't like the lack of appointments. Purely as if I had seen a midwife I'd had probably had my last baby and not end up have a late miscarriage. For my first and 2nd babies I followed the first time mum rule as there was a 7 year gap between the two. Then 2nd time for last pregnancy and this one. Although I'm being monitored like a hawk through the consultant lead team this time so it makes me feel a little bit happier. In my clinic it also depends what midwife we get. Some will book you in for extra appointments some won't. And when you phone with an issue they don't bother returning your calls here. Its pointless having midwives at times.

Just the normal appointments, however even though it's my second preg I get the extra two (that first times get) due to complications I had last time. I'm also consultant led. My midwife did the heart beat at the 16 week app which was lovely.

saw mine at 14 weeks would have been 16 weeks but got put back 2 weeks. next time i'll see her i'll be 20 weeks, saw my consultant at 16 weeks and the next time I see him i'll see 28 weeks. i'll see him for a growth scan as well though.

I have a growth scan on 10th July but still won't see my midwife until 22nd July. I hate the way 2nd time + mums are just pushed to one side. I am more anxious this time around due to 2 losses before this pregnancy but I feel like seeing my midwife before my appointment is like a burden to them :/ x

I know! I heard my first babies heart beat at my16 week app, but this midwife was pretty old school. It's annoying how incosistant they can be between different midwives. I think she was just rushing me out to be honest and couldn't be bothered to try

It's standard here not to have any mw appointments between 16 and 28 weeks but they suggested I have then more often if I wanted as I have a lot going on - with the pregnancy and personally. They have basically said it is up to me and I can make appointments as often or as little as I like.

They listened to hb at 16 weeks but I know a lot of places they are increasingly waiting til later because they can't always find it and that causes undue worry and stress. I understand them waiting. My mw couldn't find the hb at 16 weeks. Luckily I was already feeling movements so I wasn't concerned. But for those who don't feel movements til later it could be a worrying time for 4 weeks til the 20 week scan.

Where I stay you get a prebooking appointment 2 weeks before your booking appointment, then a booking appointment, then your dating scan, then 16 week appointment, then 20 week scan, then 24 week. I think my next appointment is at 28 weeks and then they become more frequent.

My midwife has been great tbh!

It seems we hardly see the midwife with second pregnancy.. I should of seen her at 16weeks but was unwell so didnt see her until 19 weeks but from 16 weeks appt, you dont see her again until 28 weeks! Seems crazy doesn't it, altho I'm not to fussed about seeing mine.

I last saw mine at 16 weeks and heard the HB and I will be seeing her again at 25 weeks as I need my MATB1 form and she said if I wanted I could have an appointment (which is good as I have some questions about some hip pain I am getting) and then not again until 28 weeks - second time Mum so you see them less

2nd time + mum
Booking 8-12weeks
Dating scan
15-16weeks

41weeks

Yes this is what I am getting for second baby. To be honest I don't know why I would need to see her more . They do bp and test my urine, feel baby and have a quick listen to the hb and that's it. I know where to ring if I have a problem, and we are the best judge at the moment regarding our health. If I don't feel baby move, if I have pain or feel dizzy etc I'll ring them. More appointments won't change that.

Tbh, the only reason id like more appointments is because I had my son at 36weeks and they think it was due to a UTI (confirmed AFTER id had him) but I had no symptoms at all - extra visits for me would put my mind at ease. Buts thats just me, I guess normal people usually have symptoms? Lol x

After my scan where I was 13+5. I was supposed to have an appt at 16 weeks with the community midwife but they can't fit me in until I'm 18+5. Tut!
