Hi ladies - I am wondering if you can help me. I apologize if this isn't the right place to ask but I thought you would have the most knowledge. When you first realized there may be a fertility problem, what did you do? Did you see your primary care dr, or an ob/gyn? I can't imagine many people head straight to a RE, although maybe you do? My primary dr. suggested I go see an obgyn first, so I have an appointment Monday. I have read TCOYF and have been temping and charting for a year, (ttc for 6mo) so I charts to show her, but because I have not been actually "trying" a full year (I'm 30) I'm worried she won't take me seriously. I suspect I have a luteal phase defect/low progesterone. The short LP worries me because my mother had the same problem as well and I don't want to risk delayed conception or even worse, an early miscarriage. I'm a pretty good self-advocate when it comes to my healthcare in other areas but for some reason this appt concerns me. I guess I'm just looking for stories of your first fertility appointment, whoever it was with. Thank you!

Hi there
I think it depends on the situation. For me, my ex-husband was active duty in the military and we lived on base. I asked the military doctors to refer me to a specialist, however, they wouldn't. They told me that at 145 lbs I was obese and should weigh 120 lbs for my 5'5" height. (I would look sick :nope:). They said that because I was obese my hormones were off and I wouldn't be able to come pregnant so they weren't going to waste their time. They even prescribed me birth control. :growl::gun:

When I started trying again about 3 years ago, I took matters into my own hands and made an appointment with a RE and we started treatment right away.

Again, it depends on what doctor you go to. Some obgyns will even give you clomid, but mine didn't.

GL xx

I waited 1 year and then went to my gp who offered to do hormone blood tests and cycle day 21 which showed no ovulation after 2 months of doing them I was then referred to a specialist who was lovely and gave me all the help I needed after diagnosing me with pcos... Im now ttc baby number 2 but have moved and my new doctor is useless and wont refer me to a specialist because ive a child im now not priority :'( good luck to you hope it all works out for you xx

We went for help when we'd been unsuccessful after 7 months.
Because it's our second time around and the gap between 1 & 2 is getting bigger and bigger... we're in out 13th month now.

Thank you ladies for sharing.

Wow Bump4me, that is shocking and really really frustrating. 145 @ 5'5" is perfectly normal, as you know. The BMI is even normal for that! Sorry you had to go through that.

My appointment with the obgyn ws moved from this coming Monday to Friday, which is convenient given that I will be 14 dpo the day of the appointment (assuming I don't get my period before then). We'll see!
