i just can't imagine myself buying a big book full of names and go through it etc...

i was wondering, where do you all get your names?
you go online and search names by letter? by style?
or do you wait in the hopes THE names will be mentionned on tv, radio,
paper,... sometime

i have a list with baby names from when i was a teenager, i'd write down
every name i liked, they came from tv shows or out of books i read,...

but for the real deal... i just don't really know how to get started

We have been thinkin of names for our lil boy but nothing seems to fit yet.

We have thought through family names, brothers and cousins etc... Listened to TV shows for names to crop up where we think 'ooh yeah i like that' ... looked through names books but didnt like none of them! :)

I never looked for names, i just thought about them. Mind you i think i read something about joquin phoenix and so i thought of River, which has stuck. Neila i wanted the feminine form of neil.

i just internet searched lol and any name that just jumped out at me id write down!!
I ddnt bother buying the books cause i think it just a waste of money when you got the internet for free.
Whats wrong with the names you wrote down when you were younger? anything you like ?

x

^^ some i still like, but bf doesn't like them...
others have gotten common, or we have friends with those names (although our emma said she wouldn't mind if we named our girl gemma haha).
or my bf had issues with a boy/girl with that name in the past... i LOVE Robin for a girl
but bf was bullied very very badly by a guy named Robin, doom!!!

and the boys names i liked back then are not on my "i like" list now

but it will be fun for our kids to see later "if mommy had you at 15 you would be called Jason/Brooke" haha

i agree with this

i chose my LO first name (Enid) when i was about 12 lol its after my nan who i lived with and i promised her that i would name my daughter after her and it just stuck plus i like old fashioned names and Gertrude because i like it and the fact it very rare lol.

Plus i call her Gertie as that is what i called her when i was pregnant and it stuck after and no one liked it at first so it made me more determind

Sorry for the long post lol

ive changed my mind about a million times, i guess youll know when you hear or even see it, some ppl dnt name their lil ones til after babys born. try looking on the net theres thousands! hope you find something you like soon :)
xx

OH just thought of the girls name and we both liked it so it stuck. Boys name was harder, we thought of allsorts but settled on a name that is shared by a musican and chef that we both like. It is quite a common name but its still a nice one! Middle names were much easier as we kept some names for our families.

i liked chloe, but loads of people seem to have it, i was telling my friend what names i liked, and i spelt chloe wrong. Chole (silent H) just seemed different and i instantly fell in love with it, sometimes being blonde comes in handy lol x

I've always loved the names Thomas & Joshua for a boy so I'm sticking with them for a boy.

As for girls....that's a bit harder! I bought a book but it didn't really come in very useful. I read a lot so I always think about the names of characters in my books! You will find the perfect name in the end....and when you do you won't imagine him/her called anything different. x

We got the idea of using the name Ruby from the Kaiser chiefs song!

Yeah songs are another good way.....or names of musicians you like? Authors? Have a wander around a bookshop - look at authors names!

thankyou all!!!

that is sooo cute! hehe my greatgrandmother was called gertrude, random fact
(ps: you might want to change it in your signature, the spelling now doesn't do it justice ;) )

i'd really like to name my kid (if it's a boy) after my grandfather, Roger (but we don't pronounce it as fancy as the english do, more like ro-zé)
so i'm looking for a more modern version or something related...

Middle names were much easier as we kept some names for our families.
none of the kids in our generation (both our families) have middle names anymore,
but i am soooo bringing it back!!! :happydance:

hmm yeah good idea, we have a huge bookstore here... and it doesn't look too odd
to walk around and write those names down hahaha

Ahhh doesn't matter if you look odd - being pregnant gives you a pass to do anything you like! :D

Awwww love it! Enid is my mummy's name :D so cute!

All my fave names are from 1 tv show, but that means that we're just gonna have to choose our fave one, because theyre pretty unusual names & itd b really obvious! We'd look like such buffy geeks!!! lol!
The names are: Darla, Xander and Anya. Such gorgeous names- but it'd look very sad to use all of em! Im liking Darla most at the moment.

Go for it if you both like them, my OH would hate it if I suggested any of those as he isn't into Buffy like me. I think they are good names, there are lots of weird and wonderful names out there - so why not!

i'm a huge buffy fan too! more when i was younger but still...
if you both like it, i agree with Kte, go for it... i don't think that many ppl will know,
esp not if they're a little older and the show is no longer on tv (they're doing reruns here atm, don't know how it is over there :) )

and i have the name Riley from that show
