where do you find your names?

i'm a huge buffy fan too! more when i was younger but still...
if you both like it, i agree with Kte, go for it... i don't think that many ppl will know,
esp not if they're a little older and the show is no longer on tv (they're doing reruns here atm, don't know how it is over there :) )

and i have the name Riley from that show

ooh- i forgot the name Riley! I love that name! Im gonna have to convince oh about "Darla"- he says it sounds like an old lady name?! Wheres he got that idea from?

I do have a book and have looked online but we still have stuck with names that we have both always liked!

All my fave names are from 1 tv show, but that means that we're just gonna have to choose our fave one, because theyre pretty unusual names & itd b really obvious! We'd look like such buffy geeks!!! lol!
The names are: Darla, Xander and Anya. Such gorgeous names- but it'd look very sad to use all of em! Im liking Darla most at the moment.

You've sooooo chosen the names I love!! I am a HUGE Buffy fan (have met half the cast!) but hubby isn't going to let it happen!! :growlmad:

My 4 year old is Hannah Montana fan hence the name Hannah (he keeps calling her ms Hannah Montana now lol) We knew early on that we are having a girl so didnt think of boys names this time. Kians name was picked by his godmother. When Kris was born he just looked like Kris and thats what we called him. x

I have looked online, and also been through the names of characters from all out favourite TV shows.

i dont know if it was just me but i found the names in books stupid most of which i couldn't even pronounce lol so i didn't use a baby book

Hi, my boys name came out of a book and my girls name is just something that popped in my head!!

We were having abit of a hard time as i dont want any name that associates with anyone else. Like someone i know on facebook (but not really friends with) having a kid with the same name, that just kept putting me off.

We now have a girl and boy name, there is plenty of time for ours to change but they have stayed the same for about 3 weeks now and nothing seems to come close to them!!!

You have to be very careful with internet searches, as a lot of the names are 'fake'

ie on a website that says the names are Scottish, hardly any of them are and are just made up. In fact, I'm yet to see a website where all names are genuine.

browsing the internet. there are lots of names there almost all of them :)

I thought back to the names that I'd always liked when I was younger and the names that I wished I had been called.

I found boys names really difficult, as I do like traditional boys names, but all of the ones I liked someone else I knew had already called their babies.

In the end though, I did have one of those 'moments' where I just felt that I found my baby's name and it's stuck, everybody that I've told his name to uses it now, even though I know some of them dont like it :)

try gurgle its quite a good site with loads of names xx

I use databases such as SSA, BabyNamesWorld, Behind the Name, and Baby Name Finder.

I've made a list of baby name books you may find interesting to read. Some are generic name books while others are specific to certain cultures or religions.

wow jealous!!!

cuuuute stories!!!

that's what i have too, like "how do i say this fluently? why does it sound like i'm talking about an old lady/guy saying this?"

i'm the same... luckily my friends and ppl i know don't share my taste in names

i'm glad you're saying that, i've noticed it myself when they claim some names to be "belgian" and i'm like "wtf? no way those names are belgian!... hmmm then those names are probably not traditionally finnish/scottish/chinese either"

when we found out we were pregnant bethany just popped into our heads and we loved it so there was no other girls names. boys names were harder. oh liked nathan for a boy ( him and his ex were going to call baby nathan if they had a boy) as his name is jonathan but coz of the ex issue i said no so we thought about it and decided on ethan instead. oh would look for names on internet, tv, credits etc where i just let them come to me ...if that makes sense. i loved the name bethany when i was little and im so glad i stuck to it. it really suits her

I like names that have a history to them, so I like the website Behind the Name.

Also, have you ever tried the Nymbler site? You can enter in names that you like and they find names with a similar style that you may also like. It's a neat site!

Yeah, I think it's best to run it past people from that country before you name your child something potentially disastrous

Like in another baby name thread on here, someone said Calloden is a nice Scottish baby name. It's Culloden, and its the place where thousands of Scottish people were massacred. Not something you'd want to name your kid, especially if you lived in Scotland

We started looking at BabyNames.com and found a few we liked... I guess! I actually found the website looking for names for my Sims, sadly. My family has this weird habit of children with similarly sounding names. I feel the need to put that into perspective for you! There are 5 grandchildren on my mother's side of the family... the one that's close and does this name thing... accidentally sometimes!

Brother & Sister: Chanda & Chad - oldest grandkids from my Mom's sister (the only 2 with their own kids, atm)
Brother & Sister: Michael & Michelle - youngest grandkids from my Mom's brother (male and female versions of the same name)
5th grandchild (me): Megan - middle grandchild!

His daughter: Jaden Nichole (older)
Her son: Jarron (younger)
Her daughter: Alena (youngest) - yet to be copied

But, here's the kicker... Here's the names we picked and liked!

Girl: Salena... back-story, both Alena and Salena came from my grandma's name, Isalena... she hated her name and didn't want anyone to ever name their child that... so, we took different versions of it... I picked Salena before she even got pregnant with Alena, but we never talked about it... it's agreed that I can still use it! Their middle names will be completely different!

Boy: Aiden Cole... It took almost a year to realize that it was Jaden Nichole in pronunciation without the J and the Ni... *sighs*

We don't mean to do these things, but we do. It's weird!

We're still looking, really. I wanted a pretty Italian girl's name... but I LOVE Salena... Salena Grace. I really need 2 girls! Maybe 3... only want 2 kids though. Hmmmph!

We also like the name Giada... which is very Italian... got it from a television cooking show hostess. I also like Karisan. *shrugs* We'll see... I need a :bfp: first, I suppose!

Good luck on finding your names! :)

I used to play Sims a few years ago and whenever they had a baby I used to sit for ages trying to think of a name. I ended up googling some name sites and making a database of all the names and different spellings I liked.

omg!! I am soooo jealous! Which name would you pick out of the buffy lot then?! lol!
