Where does the injection go for the placenta delivery?

It was on my thigh from what I remember, didn't even feel it!

ETA: because I had the injection the cord came off when they were trying to get it out. I had to squat for over half an hour over a bedpan trying to push my placenta out when I should have been bonding. I wouldn't have the injection again.

Siegal, Syntometrine is given intramuscular i.e. injection in muscle, usually leg or bum once baby is born. Syntocinon/Pitocin is given IV which is commonly used in the US. Not heard of Syntometrine being used there, I would imagine you had it IV. :)

Yup - definitely had pitocin! didnt know that got the placenta out too. You would think I would have known this before I gave birth.... The pitocin worked well I guess?

was in my thigh with ds1 i opted out ( after being induced ) with ds2 ( if you have a pitocin drip though for induction it does the same thing as the post birth jab so unless they remove your IV before you actually deliver then it will come through the IV ) and had no problems delivering the placenta it was a nice break actually getting him to nurse and getting cuddles while we waitied it out then he went and got dressed and weighed when i delievered it and got stiched up

I put in my birth plan that I didn't want an injection, that I wanted this stage to be done naturally. And they were happy with that. I basically said that if it took longer for it to come out naturally then I would have it.

So, that's an option if you are that worried about it x
