Who 'actually' gets the sure start grant?

I pressumed we wouldnt be entitiled to it as were not low wage earners however I have spoken to quite a few people now who have said they have received it or know people that have when they are on the same wages as us.
I have tried to find out what I can online and read that if you receive more than the family element of CTC you will get it. We will only receive that but am still confused as to how people who earn more have received it?
So has anybody here got it when they thought they wouldnt? I am going to fill in the form and send it of anyway but if you wanted to share your circumstances that would be great!

I thought as we earn too much we wouldn't be entitled to it but Vicky in the twins section is amazing lol and found out if you are having twins you get a higher rate of CTC then you qualify for the surestart grant! And its per child so £1000 for us! It is going to come in so bloody handy!

The worst you can do is apply and get turned down? xxx

You get it if you are on income support, but if you are not then wait until after baby is born to apply and after you have your child tax credits as if you are on a high amount you will be able to get the grant (each persons circumstances is different and they base Child tax credits on various details, so if you know people with higher incomes that get a higher amount etc then its because they are different than you, have different outgoings etc)

Anyway, i reecommend applying after baby is here as you have more of a chance of getting the grant then

I thought I wasnt entitled to it I couldnt apply before Harvey was born but afterwards when my CTC came through we were on a higher rate than the family element,which I think most people are.Then we could apply.
