I was just wondering who else is late 30's and TTC 1st? and how many children would you like?

I am 38 and TTC my 1st. I would like 2 children ideally, and my doctor acts like its no big deal. I read about so many people having children at 40 so Im hopeful I can have a couple.

I had a largish polyp removed from my uterus yesterday and Im hoping that was stopping me getting my BFP. They said it was in the preferred area of implantation. My husband has an excellent sperm count including extra of the really mobile sperm, we've only really been trying for 6 months but it seems a long time.

I usually hang out in the groups thread but most of the girls on my thread are younger so wanted to chat with some more people my age trying for 1st :hugs:

hi sarah,
I was just about to start a thread asking something similar, when I saw yours. I too feel I need to talk to people going through the same.
I've just turned 40 (still can't believe it!) and I'm TTC my first. In an ideal world I'd like 2, but I think I have more or less come to terms with the idea of having just one.
I remember when I read your post yesterday (you replied to one of mine), thinking "I wish I could be 38 again!" but I was in a different situation then and now it's the right time for me.
We started TTC in Sept '10 and got pregnant in the 2nd month, but unfortunately it ended in MMC. We've been TTC since January now and it seems ages!
wish you all the best:hugs:

Hiya both:flower: - have to be honest I'd just be grateful for one happy healthy little mini-me and mini-dh:baby:. Our finances are stretched enough as DH already has 3.... But I'm with you Kosh, I know I should've started earlier (even earlier than 38!!) but it just wasn't the right time back then, (my emotions and finances were all over the place) unlike now!

We've been TTC since Sept 10 as well (although I've had two duff cycles in that time - away over O time and not alone :growlmad: and last month, well...disaster on the BD front ie not enuf, so I'm not counting them!!), I've not even had a whiff of a BFP......yet!!

C'mon girls, it's that 'fertile' time of the year so lets get adding to it!!!!

Luv and hugs :hugs: xXx

Hi,

Well I'm 40 and just starting TTC for a 2nd time. Hubby and I started trying in 2009 but I had some health issues so we had to stop trying :( At that time we found out my husband had fertility issues which will make it harder but not impossible to have children.

But all is well again so we've started trying again (not even a month yet)

I was never maternal before I met my hubby (not even with my ex husband) but we both think it would be lovely to have a little us or 2.

We felt like we were pressured into trying the first time by both families although predominantly his. But since then they've got it into their heads that we can't have children (we are still trying to think what we said to make them think this) so we feel no pressure.

I'm not too concerned due to my age as my maternal grandmother was 43 when she had my mum nearly 71 years ago and it was very unheard of back then. She wasn't married for long (a year or so) before she fell pregnant so doesn't appear to be any fertility issues.

Hugs to those of you waiting for testing days and I hope you all get positive results x

I'm 37 and hoping to have at least 2 as you can see from my siggy we have been trying while but still hopeful.

Hi futuremum. I do hope your prayers are answered and a little one joins your family soon x

Hi Sarah,
I'm 37 and trying for #1 (since Sept 10 as well, when my DH and I got married). I would like two, but would be okay with one pg and adopting a sibling if two bios were not possible.

We are also in Canada (BC). Did you have to pay to get the semen analysis done or was it covered by OHIP? DH (he's 44) went to see his doc about a SA and he said oh you're healthy just keep trying for a year.

Really hoping this month will be the one, 10 dpo but BFN today. If not my plan is to try acupuncture and ask my doc about running some tests on me. And finding out about getting the SA without a referral.

:dust: to you and all of us trying!

awww so sorry to hear about the MC, but wow you got pregnant quickly so hopefully it wont take long for the next bfp. My best friend same age got pregnant quickly when she started trying and miscarried, took her a year to get pregnant again but now she has a beautiful 8 month old baby girl. Im sure it wont take too long for you :hugs:

hi! so how old are you now? sorry I wasnt sure what you meant by even earlier than 38. Wow thats 3 of us trying since Sept '10! I really wanted to get pregnant and give birth this year, but only 1 cycle to go for that to happen, and Im not holding out hope so soon after my operation. I also had a couple of duff cycles since Sept so Ive only really tried for 5 months but it seems ages. good luck xx

hi!!! aww thats nice that you dont have the pressure this time, so fingers crossed it happens for you soon! and guess what, my grandmother was 41 when she gave birth to my mum, 72 years ago!!! it was her 3rd child, but shows you it can happen. I wish you lots of luck :flower:

hi! I recognize your face so I must have seen you posting in this section. I hope your time is soon, you really deserve it. Im sorry I dont understand all the fertility talk, but your sig mentions Clomid...my FS said I can go on that after trying for 3 cycles naturally after my polyp removal. What is Follistim w/IUI? and soon you will try IVF? Wishing you lots of :dust:, I hope this year is your year :hugs:

hi!! another one trying since sept ' 10 thats so weird!! one of us is bound to get a bfp soon!

yes the SA was covered by ohip. As Im 38 my doctor referred me to a specialist right away, and they seemed get right to it and want to test hubby same time as me (even though he is only 29!). First it was blood tests for us both which came back fine. Then SA for him and ultrasound for me. As the ultrasound showed a possible polyp I had a sono, which confirmed the polyp and I had that removed tuesday. All that has been covered. I think they only charge once we get into actual procedures to help us get pregnant. So perhaps when you go to see your doctor and get referred they will do the same for you?

Ive also been doing reflexology which I love, but I dont think anything was going to work with my big polyp in the way. I think acupuncture would be great to try. good luck and let us know how this cycle works out! :hugs:

hi everyone, thanks for all your replies. I would love to keep track of everyone so perhaps you can post and say where in your cycle you are, or even better add a ticker in your signature like mine as then its easy to keep track.

as you can see Im coming into my fertile period, and if my cycle is like last month I should ovulate on Sunday CD 13. But I have ovulated as late as CD17. I use the smiley face ov tests. however I am not supposed to BD until I stop bleeding from my operation on tuesday, so I might end up missing this cycle. Im so excited to have the polyp out and get on with TTC! I really hope that was the issue and it happens soon. Good luck to everyone and please keep in touch here

I turned 39 this month, and would like two, but will be thrilled with one at this point. It's hard to determine how long we've been TTC. I guess I'm in the TWW, technically.

Yup I think BOTH of us are bound to get a BFP soon. Sounds great to have the polyp out of the way. Hope you stop bleeding in time for this cycle!

Good to know everything was covered, we have recently moved from Ontario to BC so have yet to figure out how everything works around here. I have a GP appt next Wed so hopefully I can get either a referral or FX a blood test :) I'm an information junkie and just want as much data as possible if there is anything we are dealing with. Eg I have not been having much CM so probably daily has the best chances of hitting it, OTOH as DH is 44 he may have low sperm count where saving up a few days might be a better strategy.

Was your referral to an OB/GYN or a fertility center?

Hi Sarah - I'm 41 (it was Kosh saying 'I wish I was 38 again' that I was referring too). I've decided that my little bub doesn't want to be a Christmas one (too many pressies all in one go) so is making me wait a bit!! Never mind we'll keep 'practising' for a good un!! Good luck 2x

I really hope it won't take a year, but even if it does, as long as I manage to have a healthy baby in the end, I will be over the moon!

Yes, I'm also starting to think of adopting one if I could not have two

:hugs2:to all who have suffered mc.

Sarahincanada I would love to tell you were in my cycle I am but currently don't have a clue :dohh:

I never really paid a huge amount of attention to my cycle apart from to know that my periods cropped up approximately every 30 days and that was as far as it went. In Nov 2009 I went back on the Mirena coil (the one with progesterone) and only recently had it removed. I know it can take up to 3 months for me to hit my normal cycle again. But I'll try and let everyone know as much as possible :)

I do hope those who have been TTC to conceive longer than me start to see some BFPs soon :dust:

Was your referral to an OB/GYN or a fertility center?

hi! I was referred to a fertility specialist at Mount Sinai hospital in Toronto so a big hospital. My family doctor is in Toronto and she sends all her patients to Mount Sinai. They have a whole unit there, seems very good. So I will stick with her and if we need to have treatments like IVF one day I would be going there too. its about an hour drive from where I live north west of Toronto but Id prefer to be going to a main hospital in Toronto than some small place near me.

where did you live in ontario? and where in bc? I visited vancouver for the first time last year and loved it, but couldnt believe the real estate prices compared to toronto!

I agree, have all the tests you can. I have a post op next month and going to ask about how to test my eggs. Im hoping the polyp was the problem but who knows what my eggs are like at this age.

anyone else had their eggs tested?

wishing everyone lots of luck, please keep in touch!
