Hi, just wondering... Why do doctors prescribe Clomid over Femara? I have read that Femara has been pretty successful.

My doctor just upped my Clomid prescription to 100mg because I didnt ovulate on 50mg.

Femara is a breast cancer drug and it's off-label use for fertility so some doctors won't prescribe it at all. I think clomid is almost always what doctors try first. Increasing your dose to 100mg could definitely do the trick.

It seems like docs are more familiar with clomid, that's all really.

Femara works well for women that don't ovulate with clomid. So, if you still don't ovulate on clomid, I'd ask for femara next time.

I used clomid in the past and it thinned my lining and gave me a cyst. Doc thought femara would be a better choice for me. It didn't thin my lining, and I'm due for an ultrasound later in the week to check for cysts.

Having done both, I'm not sure which I prefer. They both gave me hot flashes. Clomid thinned my lining, gave me a cyst, and I gained 10 pounds after 4 cycles.
Femara gave me a headache for 10 days straight though.

It's because Femara is used for breast cancer, and it's been freshly used to help with ovulation. Now, my doctor when I concieved my twins in 2009 gave me the choice between femara or clomid, I chose femara. It's just they know clomid better than femara on terms of inducing ovulation.
