Why do I only get two ultrasounds??

I've been told I only get two ultrasounds and I'm really confused. With my first I had three ultrasounds that were standard and a couple more because my placenta was low and she was breech. They say I get my dating ultrasound (which only took 5 mins which also confuses me) and then one at 19 weeks? I had one at 7.5 weeks, 12 weeks and 20 weeks with my daughter?

Here in the UK it is standard that you get 2 scans. One around 12 weeks, the other around 20 weeks. I had my first scan Friday, at 10+5, but thats because according to my LMP, I was supposed to be 12+2 - I just have a long cycle.

Idk if it works the same, but I have another scan in 2 weeks for the NT scan as 10+5 is too early to do the test, and legally I'm entitled to it. You obviously had your first scan early, so see if you are entitled to another one for the NT scan.

Down here you get 3 i believe, I had my dating scan, 12 week scan, and anatomy/gender scan. If you're not high risk or your doctor see any complications then you only get a set amount

Oh they said I'd get that done at 18-19 weeks. Maybe I'll ask my dr about it.

I only had two official scans, one at 11w & another at 20w, I've never heard of 3 u/s being the norm. I had a 3rd done at 10w to confirm baby as they couldn't hear a H/B, but I don't know how standard that is. All my other scans were private.

I think you must've misheard, the test can only be done between 11 and 14 weeks

For everyone I know the standard is one at 16 Weeks to date it, then another at 20 Weeks. My Mum int ever had one scan with both me and my sister at 16 Weeks so she was confused that I get 2 :L (although I've already had 3 and I've got another one booked at 32 Weeks, i'm not sure what that's for though :/ a consultant told me it's to make sure my babys not too small, then my midwife said it was to make sure my baby wasn't gonna be too big for me :s ) so I think the standard is 2 but the people providingyour medical care can change that as they see fit

She asked me if I wanted to check for downs and definitely said I'd get it at 18-19 weeks so I'm going to bring that fact up and see if she will give me another. I had one at 12 weeks with my first so I'm not sure why this one is so different. I'll research the twelve week, makes some good points and hope they give me another one! I'm switching to another dr soon so maybe they will know better.

She might have been on about the Amnio. At the NT scan they measure part of the baby's neck, if its too wide then it can indicate a higher risk of DS. You should definitely ask your midwife.

You don't get an early scan unless for emergency or if you have no idea about your LMP I had 2 routine then an emergency at 19 weeks and 1 in labour just before he was delivered

I got really lucky and had like 7 scans this pregnancy.
I had a 12 week scan to find out how old baby was
Had the regular 18 weeks scan but baby was flipped the whole time so they couldn't get a good luck at his heart.
Had another one two weeks later (20 weeks) to get the heart pictures
Found something wrong with that one (turned out to be just a scare) So I had another one at 21 weeks. (level two ultrasound)
Then they gave me a follow up at 26 weeks to see if the thing they found was gone.
Then I got my 4D ultrasound done, and the baby was sleeping the whole time so I got to go back the following week for a second time! (34 & 35 weeks)

I got really lucky I guess lol and I have like 100 ultrasound photos.. I'm so making a scrap book with those

Oh wow that's awesome haha! Yeah with my first I got my dating one at 7 weeks 5 days, then my 12 wk one, my 18 wk one, then one because the placenta was low and a couple because she was breech! loved seeing her everytime! I am going to try to demand another haha! I have gone to a walk in and asked they give me a referal when my dr wouldn't and got in tehehe ;D

I see that you are from Calgary that is neat my DH's family is from there so we are down there quite a bit. I'm from Saskatchewan but anywho that is odd that they are only giving you two, when i was pregnant with my daughter i got 6 but 3 of those were to check if she was still breech or not and with my son i got the standard 3, which is a dating scan, an anatomy/ gneder scan and a scan again at 32 weeks to make sure baby is head down

I had an early scan because I no idea when my LMP was. After that I was told it would just be the regular 2 scans - 12weeks and 20weeks. At my 20 week scan baby wasn't in a good enough position, so I had to go for a second one. I also went for a private gender scan. And then I got one at 38 weeks because of bleeding. So I had 6 all together, but should only have had 2.

In Ontario you only get the 19 week. The 11-12 week one (screening for various genetic/chromosomal disorders such as Down's Syndrome) is optional, but I'd recommend requesting it if it hasn't been brought up. They SHOULD offer it to all but I've heard of them not when someone's presumed to be low risk.

Aside from that, early ultrasounds are mainly for dating purposes and done if you're unsure of your last period

Generally you get one once you've been admitted to Labour & Delivery to check the baby's position too. I had these 4 plus the 3D one I paid for, which was great and about $125.

They will only do the NT test between 12-14 weeks. Its not possible to get an accurate result after that (although they refused to do mine @ 14 weeks so I had to miss out)
I had one at 6wks, missed my 14wk one -no appointments available, 18 weeks for gender & anatomy, 24wk growth scan, 28wk growth scan, 33wk growth scan & 36wk growth scan.
Yes, I've had ALOT lol 6 altogether

Thank you for the advice/info ladies! I will definitely bring up the down syndrome ultrasound next time! Maybe she said 18 weeks thinking of the other scan! She doesnt deal with obstetrics so she could easily have made a mistake! I am so jealous of you ladies that had like 6 scans! I hope I get 6 again I love seeing baby!
