So we do pre-make bottle cos my parents did and oh parents did and being first time parents we didnt have a clue how to make bottles so just went with their advise by the time i found out that it isnt advised anymore we had already been doing it a couple of weeks and it was working fine, its a lot easier and our baby is fine and hasnt been sick. So whats the problem?

Our steriliser takes 4 bottles so i make 4 at a time then put them in the fridge and warm them up in the bottle warmer when lo wants it. As we only make 4 and lo is fed every 3 hours they are never in the fridge more than 24 hours.

Its to do with the growth of bacteria. If freshly made and used then bacteria doesn't get chance to grow but if pre made and stored then it can.

Yes, if there was bacteria in the milk, the longer it is stored the more it will multiply and the more sickness it could cause. Making one at a time and feeding straightaway greatly reduces the chance of bacteria growth in the milk.
If you do choose to pre make, make with boiling water left to cool for 30 minutes, rapidly cool in water, then put in the back of the fridge (not the door) and use as soon as possible.
The risks of pre making are small but they are there. Therefore it's up to each parent to decide what they want to do.

What can the bacteria do?

Depends on what bacteria it is. Most cause vomiting and diahorrea but more serious types like ecoli and salmonella can make babies very ill indeed. Like I said the risk is small but it is there.

I dont rapidly cool them atm. Why do you need to do that? I do put them at the back of the fridge and wait 30 mins after water has boiled.

We pre make bottles too. The reasons advised against are as above, but I think it is also to do with those that keep bottles in fridge doors, leave one sides and such. It is a lot easier for the nhs advise to be simple that each bottle should be made fresh. We follow the WHO guidelines on pre making bottles which is rapid cool place in the back of the fridge. By rapid cooling we put in the sink with ice water, takes about 15 minutes to go really cold - and we then place in the back of the fridge. If we are going out I always make fresh or use ready made. We make 3 at a time, and use them within 12 hours.

I rapid cool simply because I heard putting hot bottles in the fridge can cause the fridge be too warm therefore more chance of bacteria growing and the fridge not working prop. However I don't know if there's another reason why we do it.

My lg's consultant told me its nothing to do with the bacteria in the milk, its the fact peoples fridges are dirty. If you have a very clean fridge then theres no problem. My lg has been in hospital a few times and they pre-make all the babies bottles and store in the fridge as long as the bottle is made first with hot water x

Why rapidly cool them?

Because bacteria grows the quickest at temperatures over 4C, so if you leave warm milk to cool there is more time for bactetia to multiply. Cooling it quickly reduces the time that any bacteria has to multiply as it multiplies much slower below 4C. Also as a pp said putting warm things in your fridge is bad for the fridge. Make sure your bottles are ice cold before you put them in the fridge.

I have to say, I really don't understand how the cleanliness of someone's fridge has anything to do with it. As milk is in a container so won't touch the fridge. Maybe he means if the fridge is not tje correct temperature? I'm a bit mistified by that one!
But OP the guidelines are from the World Health Organisation and are definitely about bacteria in milk. They have been adopted by the UK but not all countries (the USA for example.)
