I would like to know why we are so pre-occupied with 'how much'? I was like this up to a couple of weeks ago and I got so fed up I just give him what he wants and I don't really keep more than a mental note of what he had at his last feed so that I know when to exect him to start getting hungry again.

Every baby is different, and BF babies there is no way to tell how much they have at each feed, so what is it with FFing and the ounce counting?

Please, everyone, trust your instincts and your baby to eat what they want/need........

Sorry I just needed to get that off my chest. I'll admit that I used to worry about it, and I've seen so many 'is it too much/too little? threads in the last couple of days, but is it really necessary to always be worrying? I know I don't anymore and Earl is much more relaxed, and so am i!!

Just my opinion. Sorry if I've caused offence.

Because I was told by a midwife to give him more than I was then my health visitor told me off for giving him too much, eventhough he wants it so I'm paranoid about starving him if I listen to the HV and overfeeding him if I listen to the mw

They are asking because they are unsure. New mums will always have questions at the end of the day becaus ethey are new to this. I am a worrier naturally and women post the threads to get a bit of ressurance and advice to make then feel a bot better and know their baby is getting enough.

I know that this may be hard to understand hun but some ladies just need a little bit of guidance and they feel better.

I can see what you mean hun. But sometimes we just need this extra bit of reassurance
xx

My LO usually consumes less than the recomended quantity for his age, so I dont really worry when he's suddenly hungry & wants an extra bottle. At the beginning I was counting scoops. Now I am just fedup & I just feed my LO whenever he's hungry, but I also make sure not to overfeed him as I dont want him to become sick :)

Remember you are seeing multiple threads because lots of different people have similar questions! It is not a case of people "always worrying" - it is people worrying or just seeking reassurance now and again.
This is a specific forum for discussing forumla feeding and there are only so many issues to discuss - how much to feed is one of the major ones.
I worried in the early days about quantities, particularly since he seemed to be drinking so much for quite a small baby. As time went on I stopped worrying as he was growing fine. I then went through a period of being concerned again when he was older and still not going longer than 3 hours. Now that weaning has started I have a new worry about the fact that he still has over 40 oz a day on top of solid foods.
I don't think I am preoccupied with it, or always worrying, but it is a recurring issue and I am glad to be able to seek reassurance here.

Sorry to upset anyone....I just got a little frustrated I think.

I am sure no-one is upset - we all have topics which make us go "oh gawd, not again!". Especially when it is something that you know will cause an argument and you know exactly how that argument will pan out. Fortunately formula quantity is fairly non-controversial!

I think we just have to be careful not to make anyone think their question is silly or will annoy someone. The way BnB is set out means that people progress through the forums, usually only reading one "stage" ahead at most. When I was in 3rd tri I sometimes read babyclub but not formula feeding as I was sure I would breastfeed. I therefore had no idea if any of my questions had already been discussed. I bet some of the long-standing members must have answered the same questions a hundred times!

I am sure some of the new mums asking about quantities would really appreciate your advice to relax and go with the flow if you post in their threads. I know I would have liked to hear that.
