Hi all

Just wondered if anyone could tell me if Clomid is likely to make me feel as bad as Metformin. I had Metformin for 2 weeks and had really bad side effects after Hycosy test on Tues I am being prescribed Clomid so wondered if anyone knew if the side effects are as bad?

Also how long do they put you on Clomid for?

Hi kat.

Im on my 2nd round of clomid, 100mg this time. I haven't had any side effects at all. Good luck

Ooh that sounds good!

Quick question though. I have read your thread about clomid and everyone talks about taking it CD2-6 but I haven't had AF since October so will I need to wait til it comes before I can take it?

Also did your FS tell you how long they want you to take it for and what happens next?

Last Question - how do they know it is working do you go for a scan each time?

You can wait on AF to show up herself, or ur doctor can prescribe Provera to bring on AF. My GP was reluctant to presribe anything, insisting that I let it happen naturally. So I got my consultant to write him a letter and he's finally got his ass into gear!! :muaha:

You take clomid when AF starts as the clomid triggers the hormones that start the ovulation process, therefore it has to be taken at the beginning of the cycle.

(Sounds very scientific doesn't it)

At the minute, my consultant has prescribed me with 3 months worth of clomid. 1st month = 50mg, 2nd =100mg and 3rd =150mg.

If clomid doesn't work, I will have to move on to ovulation stimulating injections twice a week in the fertility clinic.

And consultants like to scan us between CD10 -13 to see if we have produced any follicles. If u have (which I didn't last time) they advise when ur fertile time is and when to do the deed.

Hope this helps. Sorry its so long but it took me a long time to figure all this out so I thought I should pass it on.

Big hugs :hugs:

Hi Kat,

I think Mrs R summed it up quite nicely, I just wanted to add that a lot of FSs also prescribe it CD5-9.

My doctor always prescribed Oestrogen as well from CD2-CD9, apparently this makes your body more receptive to the clomid and I did ovulate every time I tried.

PS: I did clomid CD5-CD9 as well as injectables C3, CD5, CD7 & CD last cycle and got 6 follicles, 4 of which ovulated so I definitely know the injectables work well.

Good luck, I hope you get your sticky bean soon.

hey hun.. Do u know if production of follicles necessarily means one is going to ovulate that month? I guess what I'm saying is, can someone ovulate without follicles and have healthy follicles and no ovulation..? Hmm

I'm curious cause I go in for my appointment cd 12 and I'm hoping they check mine..!

Ohhh and to Kat, Today is my last day on clomid, first cycle - No side effects for me whatsoever, but everyone is different.. Good luck!!

Hi I am on Metformin and Clomid and my side effects while taking them both were very mild and few, just a few headaches and waves of feeling sock but nothing to stop me doing my day to day routine.

When I started Metformin I had really bad sde effects which lasted about a month while I got my self up to the dose I'm on, then overnight they just disappeared and everything has been fine since.

xx

I think side effects vary from person to person - i personally found I have side effects from my first couple of cycles of clomd but on the third and fourth I didn't really feel any side effects and I believe this is due to my body becoming accostumed to the extra hormones. I'm going to be starting clomid again on my next cycle after about 3 months break so I will let you know if I feel any side effects - I'm hoping I won't or they won't be too bad!

i am on my 7th cycle of clomid and the only side effects it has given me is headaches and hot sweats, i tend to take my tablet at night as it really helps with the hot flushes. good luck
