As title, will you delay your fertility plan due to economic downturn?

Our company is going to cut headcount... but the name list is not announce yet... I'm scared to lose this job...:cry:

No way! Nothing would make me delay this.

I hope your news is good about the job! it is worrying times.

Nope - i'm lucky in that my job is secure and i will never be made redundant. Same can't be said for DH but at the moment the treatment is free. Can't wait too long else my eggs will be fossilised not fertilised!

We won't be delaying things.

My job should be relatively safe - especially now that 2 members of staff have resigned and move on. DH's job should also be 99% safe. Monthly outgoings are a little higher than we'd ideally like - even though our mortgage has come down by approx £300 per month, we're still paying the same amount to pay it off quicker.

I hope your job is safe, and you get your :bfp: very soon...

Nope. I wouldnt ever and no one i know who's ttc are either. There is never a good time to have a baby and as things stand with us having tried for so long it would be madness to stop now! :)

I think if people delayed treatment (or TTC for that matter) until we could all afford it, not many people would end up having babies. I think people just figure out how to make it all work financially.

No way - we've already wasted years waiting to try as we wanted to pay of a lot of the mortgage & build up some saving - now it's been 17 months of Ttc - there is no way I'm stopping now x

Nope been waiting for long enough before TTC and now been TTCing for too long. Plus we are reasonably ok with money and both mine and DH's jobs are secure at the moment and the next few months

Nope, DF has a very secure job and we wont move to New Zealand in April unless he's sure he can get one over there. He knows and respects thatI intend to be a SAHM so will be looking accordingly
.
While I think its silly to bring a child into the world if you dont know how you are going to support it, I also think that as Omi said, there is no 'perfect time' its balancing being able to cope with the costs involved without putting it off indefinitely iykwim?

We won't be delaying, DH is quite multiskilled and if the worst happened he should find another job without too much bother. Our reason for not delaying is that it has taken us nearly two years to get this far and even though we are still young we don't want to delay any further. We are also in a very lucky position not to have a mortgage due to money my husband inherited, things might be different if we did.

Not a snowball's chance in hell. There is nothing that will stop us ttc - never imagined it would take this long and I don't think I'd cope with the anguish of knowing we have fertility issues and not even trying. Damn it, I wanted to be starting to plan the second by now.... not still plugging away at the first......

I started a thread similar to this just before xmas. My OH lost his job in Oct and is finding it hard to find anything else now. I have just started new job 5th Jan so I wont be entitled to any company maternity pay ...just the SMP of something like £100/week. We dont have a mortgage as still saving up. I decided that we have been trying long enough and we shouldnt delay it more. Luckily I have a good job and even if I dont get mat pay first time round I can maybe get it second time round (fingers crossed). And I dont care if I bring up my kids in rented accomodation...I have still made it a really nice home for us and no one culd tell otherwise.

As its already been said, there is never a right time for kids ...as thats what we were doing for ages before we even started trying.....and trying and trying....people somehow survive when they have kids.....i saw this programme on tv about teenage wives...abit bizarre and they were all pregnant, left right and centre....and I did think, how the hell are they going to bring up this child??? well i think thats a nother story!!

There's been rumours of redundancies at my company but it wouldn't stop me trying, we've been wanting this for too long. Plus we have some money saved anyway and a family who can throw some dosh at us if need be so I guess we're kinda lucky.

Funny tho cos my colleague (and good friend) has been told her contract probably won't be renewed so we reckon the only chance she'll get to stay is if I get preggo and they need her to cover me. I told her she better start looking for other jobs, ha ha! She said when I get into work Monday, I'll find a load of ovulation kits and 'how to improve your fertility' books on my desk, bless her! No pressure then! (BTW, we were joking about so she's wasn't being insensitive, just trying to make me laugh!).

Redundancy in my state is quite high and everyone is scared to b the one.i'm in charge of accounts for Australia's office,n it'll b closed on this march.

all staff who is incharge of Australia's office are affected. Anyway, the name list is not yet anounced. my manager said definately there'll b 3 people going to b on the list.

I had told my manager abt my IVF plan, hope he is understanding n keep me away from the list..

hope everything is going fine,so I can continue my IVF schedule.fingers crossed. xx

If either OH or myself got made redundant I might have to think about delaying things if only because we could barely afford our bills on one income, let alone a child.
