Has anyone made a will since either becoming single or having the baby?

I think im gonna write one more for the care of Ava than 'leaving things' to people, cos lets face it, i dont have any property or anything to leave.

Does it cost to make a will with a solicitor?

one of the first things i did was make a will, stating that if anything happened to me i want my parents to have jake. i left everything to jake (don't have anything though ha ha!)

I did this though my solicitor (my mum works there) i haven't been billed yet, but think it is roughly £100. she may just take the money from the sale of my house, if it ever sells!!

If anything did happen, FOB could contest the will, which would go to court, but they will look at what is in the best interest of the child, and in my case FOB has never seen jake, so wouldn't be wise to give him custody

yes you'll have to pay the solictor to write it up officially and make it legal but i dont know how much it will be but solicitors arent cheap.

I realllly need to make a will! Think it costs about £80 with a solicitor xx

This is something I'm wanting to do once LO is here. Even though I've not heard from FOB in so long I'd still rather have it.

Maybe it's worthwhile speaking to a few local solicitors to see what they charge :hugs: xx

oki ill google solicitors in the area and ask, i know FOB can contest the will, but hes never seen her and lives in london and we live with my parents so obvously best for her to stay here.

Ive been thinking of doing this as well. God forbid anything happened to me, id want my kids to go to my mum and dad.
I think it is about £100 through solicitors, but i swear i saw d.i.y ones in WhSmiths, but no idea how well theyd stand up legally xx

Oh gosh that would be my absolute nightmare the ex getting my son and my son being MILES away from family as we are such a close knitted family. He is not on the BC and I hope with a will they will uphold it as it would be in my son's best interest to remain with the people he is used to, not someone he sees for an hour every fortnight.

Do those ten minutes wills online stand up legally?

Funnily enough I was thinking about this in bed last night.

My friend used to work in a wills department of a solicitors so I'm gonna ask her next time I see her. x

The wills you can buy at the post office etc and fully legally binding so long as you sign it in front of 2 witnesses. If the father is not on the BC he has to prove by DNA that he is the father before he would even be CONSIDERED for custody, and the likelyhood is that if he has never seen the child he wouldn't get custody.

I want to make a will to say my LO will stay with my parents if anything happens to me. I will wait a few more months to see if FOB changes his mind and decides he does now want to see LO and then if he doesn't come see him then I will be seeking legal advice.

so post office ones are ok? and can it be anyone who witnesses or does it have to be of a certain profession?

Yeah post office ones are fine. My parents did one. And I think its better if you have a professional witness it rather than say your parents. But its not essential.

i mean like say a teacher or someone we know who has a good status in a job?that ok?

I made a will.

It's a Do It Yourself one from WHSmith - completely legally binding if signed infront of two witness's.

I also took out life insurance, incase anything happens to me, Bella will be supported.

So in my Will i have written who will get Bella (my sister and brother-in-law who are also godparents) and also that the £500,000 that i'm insured for will all go to Bella and also all my belongings and money in savings accounts etc.

Also stated is that FOB is allowed supervised visits depending on how old she is at the time of my death should they both want to (will probably do a new Will when Bella turns 18)

I recommend everyone make a Will, only a tenner from WHSmith or cheaper on the internet. I'm sure we would all like to know our wishes are being followed after death, instead of the custody of our children going to dead beat dads.
