any special tricks to get wind up??

Ava is RUBBISH at burping no matter how long u sit there winding her, then she will drink more then throw it up. driving me nuts she has to learn to burp....

In the early days, we had to keep changing positions - that was key for us.
We also had to use Infacol / Dentinox to help her x

Sam was like this when he was first born, we winded him halfway thru his bottle but he wouldnt bring anything up so gave him the rest and he'd be sick. MW told us the 2nd lot of milk was sitting on his wind so when he did burp it brought it all back up. She told us to bicycle his legs, massage his tummy in clockwise direction and try winding him leaning up on my shoulder. We found that sitting him on my knee winding him but very lightly bouncing my knee also helped bring it up. We also used infacol.

ive been using infacol but not noticed much, she does burp it just takes forever, i usually sit her on my knee and then try upright and i wind her about 3 times during a bottle, she only just started to be sick so i know theres wind in there its just not coming up, ill try the leg thing tonight,

Having the same problems lol Dont know how many times Matthews been screaming when trying to wind him and he wont burp then give him more bottle then he spews it etc! Im using infacol as well and have found that changing him from shoulder to sitting upright and walking about helps a bit! Havnt really found anything else that works though :(

my mum says if your sitting with them on your knee and you just lay them back flat then sit them up again it should 'dislodge' any air pockets... gonna try that too

Yup been trying that one as well my mum told me that too :haha: helps a bit but usually causes him to have a big "watery" burp which ends up as sick lol

Yep, laying them flat then sitting them upright quite quickly helps.

Also lay them face down across your lap and rub their back that way.

When doing over the shoulder position, try and get their belly resting on your actual shoulder as this helps.

There's also the position laying face down the length of your arm but was only ever shown this once and we didn't use it personally.

Either gently jigging baby up and down on your knee or whilst standing can help too.

Bicycle legs is good but tends to help the bottom end more and should really be done throughout the day on empty bellies, not as a one time thing during/just after a feed.

Infacol can take a good week to notice a difference and needs to be given with every feed.

If nothing else works, you could ask your HV to prescribe colief.

HTH x

cool, ill try the winding positions, it doesnt seem a huge issue to her but id rather she burps before drinking more cos shes just throwing it up!

Nieve didnt get on with infacol but dentinox was fab.
She was awful for burping and very sicky, i used to find the best way to get her wind up was to sit her upright with my hand supporting her head and gently move her back and forth and side to side.
The midwifes actually did it in hospital with her as she was full of mucous

belly on the shoulder worked for me there!!! :) got a massive from the pits of his belly burp and a tad of vomit on my back lol guess its trial and error for what works for wind lol xx

i've never had this problem but was told by a really great nurse when i had my first daughter the key to it is to feed in small doses and then burp. feed, burp. try it could help a little bit. sorry i'm not much help mine were all burpers from teh beginning lol

Yeah, up until recently, we always winded every 2oz's or so as it's easier to get the burp up then.. We found if we let her go any more than 2oz's then the burp would get 'pushed down' and it'd be a lot harder to get back up.

I find sitting him up on my knee is the best position, but I have to make sure that my hand is on his tummy, slightly squishing the left side. When he was smaller, I also found putting my hands round his chest (one on the front, one on the back) and lifting him up in the air seemed to stretch him out and shift things quite well.

We had trouble getting burps in the early days, and used infacol for a few weeks. It took several days to start working, but once it did we'd get huge burps, sometimes without even moving him! At that point we stopped using the infacol, and he must have learnt how to do good burps, as we haven't had any problems since.

loooooool. Me 2. I tried all positions, Even if he burps 3 times after his feed. he'll burp again after almost 2 hrs and vomit. I change 4-5 times a day. I'm using infacol, solved the colic issue, but not the winding & vomitting
So, as u said, trial & error issue hopefully we'll find the right way to do :D

This position nearly always works for Evie. If that doesnt work then she goes over my shoulder. That ALWAYS works :D

Lucy winds quite well, but on the occasions when she doesn't we do the lying flat on her belly across my knee and rubbing her back for about 1-2minutes and then sittin her up again and rubbing her back - this works well, or one hand at the back of her head and one hand att he front and slowly moving her in circles so she is bent forward and then stretched out, I do it 5 times each way, rub her back and it usually brings it up, can be a little bit sicky that one, but better than her bringing the whole bottle up!!

This works well for Andrew. We also use a side-to-side method: one hand on back & one on front, then tilt him from left to right as if he were a metronome.

If I jiggle him, I can actually hear the air bubble inside him so I know whether to continue winding or not!

i heard rubbing the back in a figure of 8 helps, i just go in circles though and try not to pat her as its more likely she'll be sick that way

I love a tip I got from my Supernanny book, it's worked for Romilly really well :) Sit your baby on your lap facing you, hold them round their waist and (very gently!!) twist them from side to side - like they're doing torso twist exercises  If I combine that with then sitting her on my knee and patting her back, she almost always burps without pukage

In addition, we use Windy Pops and Dr Brown's bottles :)
