I just had my little girl on March 3rd. She's had some problems latching on and what not but a minute ago she woke me up to eat and I of course tried the breast first before I brought any sort of bottle into the picture, she latched right on and sucked until she fell asleep. The reason I'm wondering if its wishful thinking is because I felt no pain when she did this but I could feel her something and when I detatched her there was colostrum running out of my nipple and she had some coming out of the corner of her mouth. Maybe it wasn't painful cause I pumped with an electric pump earlier? She wasn't fussy at all like she wasn't getting anything she just let me hold her and sucked. Do you think its wishful thinking or maybe we actually managed to get it right? -crosses fingers-

Breastfeeding should never be painful! Sometimes (in a lot of cases) women will get sore cracked/bleeding, or chapped nipples in the first 2 weeks-1 month, because the nipples are not used to having a baby latched on. I got sore chapped nipples after a week of breastfeeding, because I was not used to it, but I suppose some people are lucky in that area, but besides that, breastfeeding is never painful, unless there is a blocked duct or mastitis, which can be treated or fixed.

i never had any pain or sore nipples, sound like you got it spot on. Though Finn has trouble latching on, I'm starting to think it might be because my boobs are too full and I should express a bit out first? So maybe the expressing did help you.

Sounds like she has got the hang of it! Keep trying, I hope it works out for you both.

Yay you and LO!! Not bloody easy at 1st at all, but a pain free feed so early on can only lead to further good sessions!

Ha... it wont be long before you're both so used to bf that your bub will latch herself on without you needing to guide her. It took me by suprise when my little girl did!

xxx

sounds like you got the right latch going on. I never had pain either with nursing my son.

Sounds like you both are doing a great job! Your lucky you have a pain free latch so early on!!!

Soe women do experience pain even if everything is right... its all the adjustment of bfing.
