Hi everyone.

I'm worried I'm not gaining enough weight. I was weight at approx 7 1/2 stone at my first midwife appointment at 8+1. Now I'm 14+3 and have only put on 1/2 a stone if the scales are right. Is this normal. I'm not showing either as far as I can tell. I had my last scan at 10+4 and since about 11 or 12 weeks have been feeling fine. No sore boobs.... no nothing in fact!! Maybe I'm just worried about everything. I try to feel my uterus and there is a ridge roughly where it should be but that to me could be anything and infact could always have been there. I clearly don't know too much about this but I would have thought it would have been much more obvious, especially since I'm quite slim.

Thanks.

I lost all my pregancy signs at about 11 weeks to, and so far everything was fine. And if this is your first pregnancy and being slim its probaly pretty normal you don't look pregnant yet. at 15 weeks I had only gained 5 lbs..Now Im I've gained about 12 lbs total which is way more then I wanted to gain because I'm no where near slim. I think if your weight is a concern your doctor will inform you :)

I always thought you would show more if you were slimmer.. hmm.. dont want to worry you or anything though.. I started showing around 12 weeks, I was 116lbs, and am now 133.. I think I put on more at the beginning though because all I did was sit around the house, whereas now I go to school and work..

The doctor should tell you if you need to gain weight. I remember my mom telling me that the doctor said she had to put on more weight because she wasn't gaining enough when pregnant with my brother.

I wouldn't worry about it. When I go in the doctor she tells me how much weight she wants me to gain by my next appointment. Maybe ask your midwife a your next appt for a weight plan for your pregnancy. I have a nice little sheet that tells me how much you should gain and when but everyone is different so your midwife can tell you whats a good weight gain for you. I lost all the weight I gained and I am now 2 more pounds then I was at the start.

With my first pregnancy, I was tiny to begin with. I didn't show until I was a good 20 weeks, and even then it was just a small pooch! I didn't gain hardly anything at all, until I gained about 15 pounds by end of the second trimester (sorry, don't know how much a "stone" is!). The doctor told me I really needed to gain at least 10 more by the end of the pregnancy.... Well guess what? I suddenly packed on 25 more pounds in third trimester! A total gain of 40 pounds, and it was ALL BELLY and BOOB! So don't stress about weight gain just yet. You still have plenty of time, and some women just don't gain hardly anything at all and still have totally healthy and normal-sized babies! :hugs:

I am actually losing weight instead of gaining it but the midwife didn't seem bothered at all and reckons that it will soon change!

i didnt put on any weight really for the first 20 odd weeks, i think by 20 weeks i had only put on 2 or 3 lbs.

I soon made up for it tho, you will too, dont worry :)

With my first i only gained 2 stone in total, i think everyonr is different, this time round i have gone from 9 1/2stone at 7 weeks to 14 stone when i was 34weeks, havent put any more on since then (fingers firmly crossed). I wouldnt worry about it, your midwife will let you know if she has any concerns about you.

I agree with the ladies, don't worry about the weight. I've only gained 2lbs at my last appointment and that was at 17 weeks. You'll probably start gaining more weight when you hit 24ish weeks, thats when I exploded with my son lol.:hugs:

I just had a post on here about a week ago cause I was worried about this as well because I havent gained any weight yet either and Im almost 17wks. My doctor said that a lot of women especially in their first pregnancy dont really start to put on weight or show until about their 20th week. If your doctor was worried then he/she would tell you. Have you heard the heartbeat yet? That always makes me feel better.

P.S. What is a stone?? A lot of people use that term and I hate to admit that I have no idea what it is... Can someone explain it to me?

stone is a weight measure they use in the UK.

1 st = 6.35029 kg = 14 lb

Hi Anita, I agree with the other ladies, try not to worry. I lost weight in my first tri and did not put on any "real" weight until perhaps weeks 18 onwards. Everyone is different. Some women put on weight early, some late, some are gradual the whole way through.

If there is cause for concern your doc will definitely let you know, so stay positive and try not to worry much :)

everyone is different.... but my ob gave me a chart when i first met her and recommended 30 lbs for me 35 max..

1st tri i gained 18 1/2 ===course she thought it was much and i wasnt happy witht that much

2nd tri 2 lbs (1/2lb a month)--so i really slowed down but i grew of course

3rd tri (just started it almost 2 weeks ago though) gained 8-10 lbs within 2 weeks (weeks 24-26) and then a lb last week at 27 weeks

so its mostly first tri for me and then the time between the end of 2nd and begining of 3rd tri (i started retaining water---so a lot of water weight but dont know how much ) putting me at the 28 lb mark with 9-12 weeks to go

but everyones dif. and who knows it could be mostly water in the end --- as long as baby is doing well and ur sure u'll be happy with ur weight and are willing to lose the extra needed to get back to pre=pregnancy who cares--- course dont ever overdo it --- it would suck to lose 50-60lbs +

4 those of u who still dont know what u should gain ----most books and sites say

average starting weight is 25-35lbs
below average is 30-40 lbs (but really depends on how much below average weight u were to start with
over average weight is typically 15-20lbs
