Hello as the title says I had a smear and didn't know I was pregnant as I had mixed my dates up and thought my last AF was a week later than it was.
I had the smear on wednesday when I was 4+3 and noticed a pink discharge straight away with period cramps. I didn't think anything of it as the time until I was talking with DH today and we were saying how we had been married 8 weeks on new years eve.
Shock set in then as I know I was on the week before so it must have been last weekend I was due on and not this coming up. I did a CD digi and it came up pregnant 2-3.
So anyway today the cramps have gone just about but I have noticed I still sahe a few pinky streaks in my discharge.
I am worried I have hurt the baby and I know it's way to early for a scan as I am only 4+4 today.
Has anyone ever made such a stupid mistake and then had a healthy baby??

the cramping could be growth pains hun as your womb is stretching it does cause bad cramps i have had them all three pregnancys

I had a smear too without knowing. Im not too worried because they literally just scrape the cervix, try not to worry xx

It's just the bleading that's worrying me more than anything as I didn't have it until I had the smear and I can't find much about it online.

i know its considered safe to have a smear upto 12 weeks, hope this helps xxx

dont worry! they give pap smears if you are due for one and before 12 wks. i had one at 4 wks 4 days pregnant. i knew i was pregnant, and my doctor says sometimes a smear is part of the prenatal exam to test for stds and abnormal cells. don't worry! and the spotting is normal too.

Having a smear during pregnancy it is safe..I had one when I was 5 weeks and spotting after getting it done it's normal

Try not to worry - the US girls are allowed to have paps during pregnancy, so while it isn't allowed here it isn't a cause for concern at all :hugs:

Whilst they normally wont give you a smear in the UK when pregnant I know that in some places in the US they will do this even if pregnant so I wouldnt worry hun. It can irritate your cervix and cause light bleeding which is more than likely what that is. xx

Sorry Booflebump I only just read your post! :dohh:

It's perfectly safe. In fact, if you haven't had a pap smear within the last year and get pregnant, they do one here as standard procedure just to make sure all is okay for baby.

If you have a little cramping or spotting/bleeding within the next day or two, don't let it worry you.

oo yeah forgot in america they have cerivcak exams through pregnancy :-)

in the uk we dont though once you are pregs we dont have any exams till we are due

just noticed too snowdragon your from sheffield i am in sheffield aswell :-)) hello fellow south yorkshire mom to be

My doctor always does a papsmear at the beginning of every pregnancy even if you already had one during the year. I had spotting and cramping but baby is healthy :)

Smears are fine while pregnant and my doctor said i would most likely bleed though i did not so people do.

My doc always hands out a mini pad after a pap because they can make you bleed when you're pregnant. If it doesn't stop after awhile ca your doc.

I had a pap smear as part of my first pregnancy doctors appointment. There was slight splitting afterwards which my doctor said was normal. and now I am 33 weeks pregnant so don't worry, it will be fine! The pap smear should not have an adverse effects on your pregnancy

Well I've had no more spotting and no pain that's any different than normal since yesterday so I think things have settled back down now.
