The mold/mildew in my bathroom was building up (vinegar wasn't working) so I sprayed tilex on all mildew-y surfaces. Now my house stinks of fungicide/bleach and I'm worried I have hurt the baby.

I wore gloves, but accidentally stepped in an area I sprayed, so did get some on my skin. I've washed off as best as I could and have the windows open/fan on, but am worrying a lot now.

Anyone been here before? Reassurance needed!!!

I have cleaned with cleaning products with all my pregnancies, never had an issue. As long as your in a ventilated room all should be fine. Just open all the windows if you can to let some of the smell out.

I've cleaned as usual in my home as well, I was never a bleach person, except to keep whites white. I just haven't bleached since falling pregnant, I was more worried about fumes! I agree with pp, a well-ventilated area is best, but since we have no windows in our tiny bathroom, I just opt to clean one thing at a time over a few days. I think since you washed your foot off, things will be peachy.

I use Lysol type of cleaners instead and use scrubbing brush, and rinse with scalding hot water. Smell doesn't bother me. Since you're pregnant, you may be sensitive to smells. I try not to use too much anyways because "chemical" smells bothers my DH.

My friend who is pregnant said that when she uses Comet, it causes gagging reflex for her. So, try another brand, or just use non-bleach cleaner and scrub brush.

I don't think anything that's on your skin will cause issues for the Baby. Breathing fumes, yes, but not skin. For extra caution, wear gloves, and wash hands/feet (lol) after you're done.

Doing it once won't hurt. It is only worrysome if you use those chemicals everyday. I think baby will be fine :-)

My doctor just say stay away from powder cleaners as you inhale the actual cleaning while cleaning. Smells is not a worry. I use bleach in my bathroom and on my kitchen floor and my baby is fine

I clean every weekend with different products. They have the sterile masks at the pharmacy that you could wear too while cleaning. I usually use those or cover my face with something to decrease the inhalation. But as others have said, being in a well ventilated room should be fine.

You're more likely to have issues from a dirty house giving you something than you are a cleaner.

Thanks for the reassurance. I really freaked myself out last night.

I used dettol mold & mildew remover in my bathroom when I was pregnant, never realised there was bleach in it. Didn't even wear gloves (I think) - silly really! :dohh:
Only realised there was bleach in it after I noticed I got some on my favourite top and it had bleached to colour out of it! NOT HAPPY!

Anyway, I was a bit worried aswell, but baby seems perfectly fine!!

Don't worry I'm sure it's fine, especially if you used gloves, washed it off your skin as much as possible and ventilated the room well you will be perfectly fine and so will your baby!!
