I recently saw an ad on Kijiji of someone getting rid of their dog because they didn't have time and I was thinking that wasn't a great reason, when I thought about allergies.....now I'm scared that baby might be allergic to our little mini dachshund! I couldn't bear the thought of getting rid of her though! Anyone actually have this happen that their baby was so allergic they couldn't keep their dog?!?!

Ive heard that if your child is around animals from birth, the chances of them having allergies decrease. There is always a risk, but I wouldn't worry about it.

This used to bother me too, As i have a cat that spent a year of its life in the pound, there is no way I could give him up again, id feel horrible.

I read that if you have dogs and cats while pregnant, your baby is less likely to be allergic to them.

Thanks! I'm hoping that's true! My OH is actually mildly allergic to her but we keep her well bathed (short hair), lint roller the couches and sweep/mop often, so hopefully that will be enough. I just couldn't imagine, as she's been our baby for 4 years now....

it should be fine im sure its rare no reason to worry till it comes to it and if that happens than you will have to deal with it then but a small dog like that should really be no problem :) we have a big dog my husband is allergic to her slightly but we keep her clean and vacuum a lot and shes fine :) so hopefully our kids wont have problems but if they ever had such a problem we had to get rid of her we'd find her an awesome home... but tons of kids are around pets and ok with it!!

i can totally relate to this, however my circumstances are completely diferent.

we have a pure bred persian/chinchilla cat which weve had for 3.5years now and i have 3 children already 9,5,3 which all adore him, however.... i am now pregnant with no4 and this precious little girl has a major heart defect and a compromised immune system. which means she will be spending alot of time in childrens hospital and also having surgeries and require alot of around the clock care alot more then a usual baby.

so we have had to make the most painful decision to sadly let him move to another persons house, a friend of ours who will be able to continue the love and attention he needs. this was not a decision we made lightly but one we had to consider the most best option for our animal and for our child and finding the right balance to ensure both were given the best options at life etc.
