I have a dr appointment at 2pm but I'm not sure if I'm overreacting, DS1 very rarely gets ill, he is a freak of nature and the only time I can remember him being ill for more than a day was when he had chicken pox 3 years ago, he can usually fight of a stomach bug in a couple of hours and pass it on to me leaving me crippled for 24 hours! So because he's rarely ill I'm just not sure if I'm over worried.

He's been running a high fever for the third day now (since Saturday) I have one of those strip things and it says it's 38 something, paracetamol is managing it mostly though. He's lost his appetite barely eating and was sick when he woke up this morning (not much though because as I say he's barely eating) he generally looks miserable although he does perk up (I'm guessing after the medicine kicks in) he looks very tired around his eyes.

Am I right to go to the dr? I was just worried he might have some kind of infection especially as he's just getting over a cough, as I say I'm just not used to him being ill for more than a day so I may just be overreacting, I know it needs to be my own instinct but just wondered what you would do if your children were presenting similar symptoms? How long can I give calpol?

Just take him in. Who cares if you are overreacting anyway? I don't give a crap and always take LO.

Hope your little guy is better soon :hugs:

I'd take him to be checked over, definitely. Hope he's feeling better soon xx

I'd take him, Jacob has always been the same. The sum total of his illnesses so far are chicken pox and an infection that needed anti-b's.

I'm sure it says on the leaflet to only give calpol for 3 days, after that seek GP advice xx

I'd take him in, sounds like its quite nasty if he's normally over illness so quickly.

Thank you, I was just worried as the calpol and NHS websites say that fever will clear up on its own after a few days but he's never been like this, I'm used to this kind of thing with my youngest as he's forever ill, he will quite often take up to a week to get better so if it was him I would leave it longer but this is strange for DS1.

I'd take him in it mostly probably will be something that clears up it's self but it's very worrying when there ill. Are you alternating calpol and ibuprofen that can help to control thee fever.

You booked the appointment for a reason, trust your instinct :hugs: hope he's better soon x

Always trust your instinct.
Have you ever used paralink suppositories?
I find they bring a temp down much quicker if it's been up allot.

I'd go. My LO is the same, he hardly gets ill so if he had a fever (he's only ever once had a fever and that was at 6 weeks old when he had a UTI) I'd probably take him in because it's unusual for him to have it.

Definitely go. Mine are both rarely ill but they have both had similar symptoms (at different times) one had tonsillitis and the other an ear infection. Both needed antibiotics and within 24 hours of starting them bounced back. Not only the anitbiotics but I think I relaxed as well which meant they did and they started to feel better due to that too

I'd take him in. My older son is the same, rarely ever sick. He gets over stuff in hours that we are sick with for days. If he was sick how your son is, I'd take him in a heartbeat, because I know its not normal for him to get sick like that. My other son is sick all the time, so it'd be more normal for him, and I probably wouldn't react the same. You have to go with your gut on how you know your kids typically are.

My eldest does this when he has tonsilitis, by the time I catch on he's normally on the mend and there's no point me asking for antibiotics
