https://www.confessionsofasinglemum.co.uk/benefits-single-mums/proposed-changes-to-csa/

Been reading some stuff on-line lately about changes to CSA procedures in the UK and I can't believe what I am reading, it implies or suggests that a new system is going to be put in place for child maintenance which means charges for us single mums to use CSA as a service? Something stupid like an upfront fee of £100 and then more money thereafter to actually collect the money off the father!

Seriously WTF???!! what single mum can afford £100 to pay the government to get money off the father? thats about 2 months worth of maintenance payments gone right there for some people for just an effing fee??! I hope i have been reading stuff wrong and have got the wrong end of the stick. Does anyone know about this?

If this is true and they expect us mums to pay a huge fee like that to chase non paying FOB's. I think i will lose hope. What message does this send to young men now? ' oh great! i can get my girlfriend pregnant, bugger off and she wont be able to afford or wont bother to chase for child support so i can get away with ruining these peoples lives scott free! whooppee unprotected sex with no consequence anymore!'

It makes me sick. Dont we suffer enough as the women left pregnant and heartbroken? left with all the finance of raising a child? left with all the emotional trauma and anger at the injustice of our circumstances? this is another nail in the coffin. The only peace of mind most single mums can get is getting child support to help raise a baby off the low life excuse of a man who dumped her when pregnant and they want to take that off us. Its been so bloody stressful for me asking FOB for money for his child. if its not the excuse that he has no money to live on, I will break him, its that he is depressed, ill, suicidal etc etc and for 6 months i have tried both nicely and nastily to pay up and be responsible for his child. So the government want us ladies to try to communicate first with FOB to get maintenance? Are they for real? some women have been abused by their FOBs and want no contact with them at all. This forces women like that to go straight to CSA, do not pass go.

I really hope that this is some sort of legislation that is just being suggested and that they wont follow through with it in Parliament or something?

this is disgusting, if anyone should pay its deadbeat dads, i honestly cant believe they would even consider this, where is the logic in this...

i can see something kicking off if this actually went ahead.

I hope you've read it wrong , but everything seems to be changing so it's prob true, I'm planning to go through the CSA once my baby arrives, he can deny my baby but this way he'll have to take some responsibility, if that's not an option, your right, this almost justifies these sad excuses for men fathering and abandoning their children without a second thought x

i heard that that was going to be the case, that they are going to charge to use the CSA service??!!?? terrible!!

i am not sure of its the case that it will actually happen - Gingerbread the single parent charity seems to be fighting it pretty hard!

If you follow the like it looks like they've reduced the fee from £100 to £20 (still £20 too much imo)

xxx

and they take into consideration soon what money fob when working out benefits. so basically its just easier to let these assholes run free

Ill ask about this a friend of mine is a case worker. The last I heard the absent parent was going to incur the charge if any payment was to be made?

Hopefully it falls flat if its the other way round x

sickening... especially when my sons father only pays £5 a flipping week for his son, how am I supposed to afford up front fees when I am currently supporting me and my son on our own. Come on - how am I supposed to support a child on £20 a month???

Life is hard enough for a single Mum - I was brought up by one and she did nothing but struggle until she met her new partner. I salute you all for it - The government need to get a grip and start taking things away from the right people, not the people already in need! x
