Hi,

I know its early, but I like to get prepared as we have loads of b'days around Christmas and New Year too.

Our DD2 will be 10.5 months old at Xmas so Im basically thinking go for gifts for 1 year olds. MIL has asked what they can get but I have no idea as DD1 is 2.5 years old and all of her stuff from last Xmas is still like brand new!

Obviously I want DD2 to have her own things not just constant hand me downs, but at the same time I don't want a house full of things for the sake of it, and also its a waste of money?

Have there been any cool new toys for LO's in the past 18 months?
Or does anyone have any suggestions?

I can think of loads to get DD1 as am going for things for 3 year olds so theres a whole world of options. I guess every Xmas will be like this now with 2 girls just 2 years apart! lol

Stalking as feel exactly the same as you Janeypops! 18 months between my two and even though my second was a boy, with DD I bought unisex toys. Now there's nothing left to get :dohh:

Following too, my little girl will be one on the 21st so clueless on what to get as DS has lots she can play with then!

Little people or toot toot? Both unisex. Ds 1 had lp, so for ds 2, I am going for toot toot, 2 reasons, we still have lots of ds things, and, I want my second to have different, he is his own person, and I want to try to get other things we have not had before!

Slight different for me as my eldest is 5, so even using his toys, they have been out the way for some time, so in a way, still feel new again. Other things my ds 1 liked at that age, aquadoodle, puzzles, the wooden ones with knobs on, scuttle bug, v Tec alphabet train. I think they are all pretty unisex at that age, so good for all.

My LO will be around 8 months at Xmas so we're asking everyone to get 9-12 and 12-18 month clothes or outdoor summer toys.

She won't have a clue what's going on and will enjoy the paper and boxes more than anything so we thought it would be best to get a leg up on the necessaries for the year ahead.

Were the same. I posted pretty much the exact same thread in Santa's grotto and there were quite a lot of idea's if you want to look. For us it should get easier as they get older having a boy and girl but at this age everythings pretty much unisex, so she's got everything from her brother. We are really struggling with idea's feel like dd will hace hardly aanything compared to ds.

Yeah we're thinking some Happyland things as DD1 has a couple of bits, so maybe getting the mat with the roads and park on etc then some more shops etc for both, so kind of like a joint thing. Also was thinking (but maybe for next year?) getting one of those tables with the wooden train sets/towns on (a play table?) again a joint present. Im guessing that as they get older and we see their individuality more (one may be a tomboy lol!) then buying gifts will be easier.

I have the same issue; and I have THREE girls! We don't have a lot of things for them, but they have enough and we don't have much space so the things we buy have to be affordable, things they will like, and not wasteful on space. I've bought a Mr Potato Head, couple of barbies, some my little pony, some books... We work Christmas a little differently though; they have one main gift each, then their stockings, then everything else is for them to share. It doesn't belong to anyone in particular, but obviously we buy the age specific things for their personal presents, and the more general ones for sharing.

Wooden play tables are brilliant, I bought one (second hand) for my 5 yr old a few months ago, he has boxes of lego under it, and plays on the top, his wooden railway also goes on there. Basically, he uses it to play on, the "scene" painted on the base is fab for imagination play, but for me, it keeps my lounge floor free of little bits, he so often had a track out, or set up an army of lego on my floor and I had to make him take them down after a few days of tripping over them! Now, with the baby, it is a great way for him to be allowed to play with small piece toys, but safely out of harms way.

What about sonething personalised? I had a book as a kid about Snow White but certain bits had my name, birthday etc...
