Xx

When mine were in infants we waited in playground Till teacher opened classroom then they all went in.

Pick up was wait till door open then teacher would find parent/carer wave and send child to you.

Afternoon pick up was more standing around. Say 30mins waiting but morning faster x

I have used the adult toilets if really desperate when pregnant but I wouldnt dare as usually. Saying that,I was desperate the other day so pretended LO needed a wee so I could go!

Mornings she goes in at 8.50am so we get there around 8.30-8.40. Older two go to their playground (they go in at 8.45) and then KB will play with her friends until time to go in. Parents wait until LO goes in. Afternoon I get there shortly before she comes out (again wait by classroom door) at 3.10, then we walk round to the older two playground as they come out at 3.15, we are out of the school by 3.20.

We leave in plenty of time to park, school starts 8:50/55 so we normally walk down to the playground for 8:45. We stand just outside of the door in a miniature playground, there's a few benches. The kids normally then start queuing up outside their door until the bell goes and then the teacher lets them in.

Afternoon I again leave in plenty of time to park up. Wait in the car until about 3:20 and then walk down to the playground. Kids generally are let out at 3:25-30. We just all stand around making small talk. School don't mind you going in to use loos if needed.

Our doors open at 10 to 9 and we go in and their is an activity or a book. Parents can stay until 9 but some go earlier now they are settled.

At home time the children line up and the teacher sends them out one by one when they have seen the parent is there.

Unsure about the toilet

:flower:

Earl's school doors open at 8.45 so I aim to be there at that time or just before. The doors close again at 8.55 and parents are not expected to go in with the children.

Pick up is at 3.15 but the gates open at about 3 and parents loiter in the playground. I aim to be there for gates being opened purely so that I'm at the front as I'm short and if I don't do that Earl can't see me! lol

There is a toilet for general use right by the front doors at Earl's school. While they don't advertise it, it's there for parents/toddlers to use while waiting etc. There is an after-school club there and it's ostensibly for the adults to use but they let you in in the morning/afternoon if needed lol.

Megan goes to breakfast club and I literally ring the bell, say bye to her and then the breakfast club leader gets her and I go to work.
On an afternoon all the children are kept inside and then the teacher will open the door and shout them out one by one when she sees there parent.

The drop off and pick up are generally quite quick. At drop off the doors left open for 10 mins and I walk him to him, say bye and he goes in. At pick up I wait by the doors and they come out, and walk to whoever is picking them up. You can literally be in and out in 5 mins if you hurry! Also I've never been able to use the loos, is there a cafe or anything nearby in case you need them?

Have the buses got any sort of app to track them? That'd help know if you need to hurry or slow down! Also I find chatting to the other mums help, as when I'm dropping him off and there's a bus coming, one of them walks him the last bit for me and drops him off so I can make the bus.

My DD's school starts at 8.30. They open the gates and all the kids just run on in.
At pick up time the mums and dads stand in the playground until they come out at 3pm.

Josh's school starts at 8.45am. We generally leave the house about 8.20-8.25 and it takes us 10 minutes to walk and he gets 10-15 minutes to play. Whistle blows and we walk them to the classroom.

Pick up is at 3.30. I generally get there 5-10 minutes before

We can use the toilets

The school I teach in, the door open at 8:55 and the parents bring the children right into the classroom. We shut the doors 10 mins later and any latecomers have to come in via the school office and will be brought to class by the secretary. At hometime we open the classroom door at 3pm and the parents are waiting in the corridor. I send the children at one at a time to their parent. Whole thing is over and done in 5-10 mins max. We have an open door policy to parents and they can talk to us before or after school.

At Daisy's school she has to be there at 8:45 although children are not classed as late until 9am. The teachers open the outside door and they go in. Parents are not allowed to go in with them. At hometime parents wait in the playground and the children are sent out one at a time by the teacher when she spots the parents. I don't do the school runs as I am at work but my hubby generally arrives 5 mins before the doors open both morning and afternoon.

Parents are not allowed to use the toilets at either school.

The school my daughter goes to there's a gate by the entrance which opens at 8:45am, you then take your LO/s round onto the main playground where they all line up by their classroom entrances. A whistle is blown at 8:55ish, at this point the teachers from each class come outside to take their classes in. I wait around until my daughter has gone in but some just walk them round onto the playground and leave.
At the end of the day the gate is opened at 3:15 and again parents go round onto the main playground to wait outside their child's classroom and the teacher stands by the door letting them out one at a time when she sees their parent/carer is there.

As for toilet, I'm not really sure, just because they probably wouldn't want loads of parents wandering around the school?

I asked to use the toilet yesterday and it wasn't a problem, it's the first time I have though.

I used to be a teacher. For before school club it was held in the main hall, parents would bring their child in, sign in and leave.

All entrances apart from to the main hall were controlled and this too was locked 10 mins after the bell went (if you were late you'd buzz in via the office).

If not part of the before school club kids would line up outside. We discouraged parents from actually coming in apart from primary 1 in the first few weeks.

There was a toilet near the main entrance but it's use wasn't really advertised.

Each school is different but in the UK many follow similar steps for security reasons.

Sophie starts at 8.40. We usually arrive at school at 8.30/8.35 and go into the classroom first, change her reading book, put her book bag into the crate for her group. There's also a laptop where you have to put your child's name into the section for packed lunch or school dinner for that day. If I need to speak to the teacher or pay the secretary for anything (swimming, trip etc) I do that, then we go back out to the playground and Sophie plays with her friends until the bell goes. The parents stand around talking. Then when the bell goes, her class lines up at the classroom door and the teacher lets them in then locks the door behind them. I'm normally back in the house (2.5 miles away) just before 9.

In the afternoon, I leave the house at 2.45, arrive at school between 2.50 and 2.55 and the parents wait at the classroom door. The teacher sends the children out one by one as she sees the parents. We get home about 3.15.

On a normal day DD1 (reception) goes to breakfast club which starts at 8. Routine is:
Night before: make sure DD1 bookbag is ready with everything she needs for next day, prepare my bag for work / things DD2 needs for nursery.
6.45: I get up, make myself a tea and something to eat, do something for breakfast for DD2, shower.
approx. 7-7.15: get the girls up
7.15 onwards: get both girls ready (OH usually DD2 for me so I can concentrate on any help DD1 needs getting dressed and do hair of both girls). DD1 mostly dresses herself, washes her face and brushes her own teeth but has curly hair so needs help with it. Much of this involves reminding DD1 to do the same thing over and over again as she forgets as soon as I ask her and is easily distracted by things like singing at her reflection in the bathroom mirror when she should be brushing her teeth.
7.45-7.50: Leave for 10 min walk to school
8.00: drop DD1 at school (she signs herself in at office and takes herself to dining hall, I just need to leave her at school office.) Then walk to train.
8.15: Train to work
8.25: Drop DD2 at nursery
8.30: I start work, usually exhausted, hot and grumpy!

My top tips would be to gets bags ready the night before (and maybe even lay out clothes for kids if you are more organised than me!) and, if you have to wake your kids in the morning, to get yourself up slightly earlier then the kids so that you are ready before you start getting them sorted.

2 buses seems a long way away, esp in a winters morning with 2 LOs getting cold/wet can you not get a school closer?

If LA can't give you a place closer surely they should provide transport?

There is only one closer to us, but it's a small school and we're way out of its usual acceptance distance - in the past they've accepted children as far as 520 (yards or meters I can't quite remember!) and we are 690 away. :nope:

When I think of how many children must live near to us, and how they are that far out from that small school to - and the double bus journey school is their next nearest too - I realise they must all be making that trek to school every morning. I am just dreading it!!! :nope:

I would ask LA about providing transport esp if their are other families in the same location. In Scotland the legal max they can ask primary school kids to walk is 2miles (high school 3miles). The route must have a lit footpath. I'm imagining England will be similar.

2 buses 5 days a week for 7 years is a lot of money mention the time factor.

The cost to LA might also make them consider expanding the local school.
