Hi!

For the past several days I noticed that my 4 weeks old have had several cases of explosive yellow mucusy/stringy cottage cheezey poops. Many times I noticed that she strains real hard and on occasion cries before an "explosion" or fart. Sometimes she gets real gassy too and once farted around 8 times while feeding. Her Ped said its all normal and she'll eventually grow out of it... And another nurse said it could be a case of foremilk/hindmilk imbalance. I was wondering if anyone else experienced this before. I'm exclusively BFing. Thanks!

Mickey's are often quite mucousy and stringy. Ive heard it can be due to an intolerance but he has no other problems. Re the explosions, sometimes his are for a few days and sometimes they're not. I can't really predict him. Just when I think I have him sussed he changes! X

The cottage cheesy thing is totally normal, it's just a variation on the 'seedy bits' you always hear about, ditto for long white bits that look a bit like slightly cooked egg white. True mucus is more clear or greeny and looks like snot in the stool, or it can look like thick saliva. My youngest sometimes gets this and I think it's because I do have slight oversupply, it tends to be later on in the day and at night. As he has no other symptoms that would indicate a problem I am just leaving it and not doing anything special. Wind and straining to poo is quite normal and common as well xx
