Hey im 21 weigh in at just under 280pounds and im ttc.

Im posting to ask for hope and stories on how people in my situation managed to conceive, cause all i can find googling is negativity. I know the risks I've already changed my diet and lost 15pounds, I've joined a gym and work in child care i know how fit you need to be to look after a child.... But it doesn't change my size and what impacts it will have on conception.

Thanks. x

i'm having problems conceiving, most likely due to my weight. i was told to ask about clomid. I was able to get pregnant in 2010, but it ended in a m/c. this one will be my sticky bean :)

That must of been devastating :( I've heard of clomid but i wasn't sure if they'd prescribe it to without being infertility. I've only been ttc for 2months but im trying to start with as much information as i can...

Im overweight as well, have you done any opks or use a bbt to see if you ovulate?

Not yet but my cycles pretty regular even on implanon i had a 3month cycle now im having a 28 - 30 day cycle so i just sorta assumed i was.. or i shouldn't of??

Didn't want to read and leave can't really help with the weight situation but just wanted to say :hi: im 22 and TTC

Hope everything works out and we get our 2012 babies :hugs:

:dust:

We started TTC when I was also 21 (25 in six weeks :().

From what I know is Fertility Specialists (if you need one later down the line) is that they prefer you to have a BMI under 30 and I know my FS won't treat anyone where one or both partners smoke or if the woman has a BMI of over 35. It's not to do with your weight so much as it is to do with BMI. I would recommend (only because those with a higher BMI are more likely to have difficulties) is look into your local Fertility Clinic and see what their guidelines are. That way, if you do need to work on getting your BMI down before they will see you, you are already on to your way of doing it. I know you are already losing weight but it will at least give you a target to aim for.

My BMI was at 32 and my FS informed me on my first appointment that IVF patients need to have it at 25 and advised me to try working on it just in case I needed to go on the waiting list (you can't even get on the waiting list till it's below 25 and it's 10-12 month waiting time). I have got it down to 27.30 simply by cutting out the crap I used to eat and 30 minutes on Wii Fit 2/3 times a week. (Wii Fit is really fun as me and hubby have competitions to see who can get the best scores, lol.)

Good luck and I sincerely hope you get your BFP soon and without having to go through intervention.

P.S. My sister has a BMI of 39 and is due in November (wasn't even trying, was on BC) and my cousin who has one of nearly 50 got pregnant her first month of trying.

Hey Forever.xx, I'm in the same situation, though I'm older. My husband and I are just starting TTC. Before we started I lost 30lbs, and had a check up with my doctor. She explained to me her concerns (and tested me for pre-diabetes) about gestational diabetes and preclampsya, but is very 'size friendly'. My BMI is 37, so I'm a bit above normal, but I'm still eating smart, exercising and staying active before I get the BFP. I'd recommend the same, and see a doctor first! It's better to get that stuff under control than to dive in head first and regret it later when you have problems in TTC and pregnancy.

That being said, if your doctor recommends not having a baby and just writes you off, find another opinion. My sister in law has diabetes and was told she should never conceive by a doctor because of the high risks. She found another doctor, willing to WORK with her, instead of just writer her off. I'm happy to say I have a beautiful niece and an adorable nephew now. Her pregnancy was just watched more closely.

Don't let all those sites scare you off from becoming a mother. Plus size women deserve babies too!

I am overweight and TTC. I'm healthy, except for unexplained low ovarian reserve, which has nothing to do with my weight. I am active, have been losing weight for years. Eventually I'll get to where I want to be, weight-wise.

We've been TTC for three months, in fact this is our fourth. No luck so far, which is expected, because of the ovarian reserve, as well as our mild oligospermia. If we end up needing IVF treatment, I am likely going to have to lose a few pounds faster than what I normally would.

Weight often affects conception. There are many underlying issues that come with obesity. Some could be hormonal, some could be something completely different.

It seems to me that the majority posters on this forum would disagree with me, bu I wouldn't be comfortable in my own skin and wouldn't just wait to see what happens. There are risks during pregnancy as well, when you're overweight or obese. The bad things can affect the mother, the baby or both. And none of these things should be disregarded under any circumstances.

If your doctor agrees, I'd go for a baby. I'd make sure the pregnancy is monitored and I'd stay on a diet and maintain the most of physical activity your body can take. If the doctor says no, then I wouldn't do it until whichever goal is reached.

Personally, I would never ever change my doctor because he or she is not supportive of my weight. My weight is obviously wrong, I'm overweight, if not obese. They have all the right and it's actually their job to tell me to lose weight. A doctor who wouldn't do that, that one I would change right away.

Of course there will be stories about really obese couples conceiving, someone's sister's friend's grandmother's uncle's best friend giving birth to a healthy baby while weighing 500 pounds, but... so what? Does that apply to every case? There are smokers giving birth to (healthy) babies every day, too. But is that the best one can give to their child? I don't think so. There are alcoholics conceiving and parenting. Is that the best environment for the baby? I don't think so.

My weight is my own problem and I am the main reason it exists. My child shouldn't suffer in any way because I am the one who made bad choices at some point.

So I'm trying to do as much as I can to make things better. And to make sure I give my future children the most and the best I can.

My bmi is much higher, its 41 :( i have always been a big girl but with implanon i gained like 60pounds, and im really lucky my Dr is supportive I've had a check up before we even started ttc and i asked about my weight and he said i should be fine just won't be able to gain much weight through the pregnancy.

Im at high risk for gestation diabetes with or without the weight all my mum side of the family had it and they were different in weight and size.

Hi, I thought you might like my perspective on it. I was much much heavier than you when we decided to ttc. My husband is even more overweight - so a very big couple!

we conceived on our very first month of trying. I had a pretty straight forward pregnancy (was very tired and perhaps more so than I would have been if I was fitter and I did have a bit of SPD but don't believe that is weight related).

Had a natural birth with just gas and air.

I was monitored more carefully throughout my pregnancy - glucose tolerance test, growth scans, anaesthetist checking to see if I would be eligible for epidural had I wanted one, etc, etc. I was classed as high risk until just about into my third trimester, when the consultant was happy with how me and my baby were progressing and discharged me back into the care of my midwife and told them to treat me as "normal"

I also read all of the scare stories and was petrified when I got pregnant. We decided to just start ttc and I'd eat healthily along the way, assuming that it would take a long time and that it wouldn't matter too much given that each month I would be losing weight. So, it was a very big shock to get pregnant so quickly after reading so many negative things!

I do wonder if the reason I had such a quick conception was because I had not been using any hormonal contraception for years before ttc. We had just been using condoms. Since having our son, I have decided not to go back on the pill until after our next child, in the hope that it will help again!

I would absolutely say carry on eating healthily and hopefully while you are changing your eating habits as there is no negative side effect to that and fingers crossed it will all happen for you quick enough x

they won't give it to you unless you've been trying for close to a year. some have said they got it sooner

I started using opk ? And i had a faint 2 nd line does that mean i ovulate? not that Im ovulating but that i do ovulate? if that makes any sense? Im really trying to take on board what everyones saying so i started the kits and i thought i was suppose to ovulate tomorrow going by the calendar method but i only got a faint line so does that mean i haven't yet? or can it mean i already have?

its so overwhelming!

I'm obese, young and TTC myself. I have been doing LOTS of research. I found 2 sites that you might be interested in. They're empowering, helpful and amazing. :)

It doesn't mean anything, other than that there's some presence of LH in your urine.

Hii :)
Im having my implant out in a week, and am hoping to start ttc as soon as!! :D
