Your Lo's Weight At 5 Months!

Was just wondering what everyones kiddies weighed when they where 5 months of age? & how was thier weight gain? I took my boy to the HV to be weighed & he said to me that he is a "little bit below his centile, but he isnt bothered about it at the moment because of his birth weight". My boy is 70CM in length & weighs just over 17lbs. When he was born he was tiny (he was in tiny baby clothing!) & weighed 7lbs 6. He also went 7% under his birth weight. His weight gain was very fast up until 4 months old (he was 16lbs 3oz at 4 months) & now it appears to have slowed down. Is it normal for it to slow down so much? He is still growing length wise but now that the HV has said that i am concerned that his weight will not keep up with his height! He is on 9oz of milk every 2-3hrs so i dont think i can give him any more lol he has also been teething for a few months now. I dont fully understand what centile is but part of me worries that he will end up under weight!

yes its normal. We went from 7lb15 to 13lb1 at 12 weeks. 17 weeks he was only 14lb1 so it slowed a lot and hes dropped from 75th to under 25th. Not getting him weighed til Monday but I reckon hes about 15lb7 by now.

My 5 month old weighed 12 lb at her 5 month appointment. I think you are fine.

Mine weighs 17.2 lbs and is in the 75th percentile for weight and 98th percentile for height.

Very normal for them to slow down, he really doesn't sound small to me. My son is 10.5mo now and less than a month ago when he was measured he was 70cm. I don't have his 5mo height but at 4mo he was 64cm and at 7mo he was almost 68cm so somewhere between there at 5mo lol. Weight though he was a couple ounces over 15lbs at 5mo and now at 10.5mo is about 18.5lbs. He has really been all over the chart, 28th% at birth (7lbs 1oz) then jumped up to 45th-50th% for awhile but has slowly been going down since about 4.5mo. He's about the 7th% now for weight but he's healthy, I try not to pay much attention to the charts

Percentile is basically how many babies weigh more or less than your LO. My LO has always been a large baby and is in the 99th percentile of weight and 94th percentile in length which means that (on average) if there are 100 breastfed girl babies the same age as my LO she weighs more than 99 of them and is longer than 94 of them. I have been told that as long as the percentiles for length and height continue on the same curve then there isn't too much too worry about.



He looks completely fine to me and when they start to move more (like rolling, sitting, crawling, etc) they tend to gain weight more slowly. As long as you feel like your baby is happy and healthy I wouldn't worry too much about the numbers. All babies are different and you know your baby a lot better than someone that only sees him every once in awhile.

Yes its completely normal for the weight gain to slow down about this time. DS was 66cm and 8.1kg (about 19lb) at 5 months and on my country's charts is on 50th percentile. Has always been on the 50th percentile, born 7lb 3oz and 48cm. He had only gained just over 1kg (2lbs) since 3 months old, whereas prior he was stacking on nearly a pound every 10 days!! He is very healthy looking and his dr reassures me that his gain is fine.

Yes, very normal for it to slow down.

I dont think you need to worry - you have a big one there compared to my LO!!!

We went from 7lb 10oz to 13lb 11oz at 5 months. She is just a petite little lady, like her mama! Not sure what she weighs now, i keep meaning to go but never get round to it! at 6 months she was 14lb 7oz i think. She has just turned 8 months so i guess she must have finally doubled her weight by now. Im not worried at all, she is coming on in leaps and bounds developmentally and a happy little girl

At 22 weeks LO was 13lb 15oz. It is normal for weight gain to slow down. At 8 1/2 months LO is 17lb something. They gain so quickly after birth it can be a worry when it slows down! But your LO seems to have a good appetite so sounds fine

My LO was born 7.7lbs
4 weeks- 10.3lbs
8 weeks- 13.11lbs
12 weeks- 15.4lbs
16 weeks- 19.6 lbs
20 weeks- 19.12lbs

Now at exactly 5 months and 22 weeks he is 19.2lbs, I've been taking him swimming, he has tons of tummy time and is moving a lot so his weight went down slightly and is now starting to even out!

Your LO sounds similar to mine & I think they're just fine!!

My lo was 6lb 1oz at birth, went down to 5ln 7oz n last week at 5.5 months weighed 16lb 7 oz, personally I don't care bout centiles I'm not bothered if so many babies weigh more or less than mine, long as ur baba is happy n healthy all good xx

My lo was 15lb15 at 5 and a half months and had 4x8oz bottles a day. She was 6lb13 at birth. I don't think you have anything to worry about! X

My LO's weight gain is all over the place. Gained about 6 oz per week til 8 weeks old, then from then until 4.5 months old it was around 3 oz per week. Last 3 weeks there, since he turned 5 months old he has gained 6 or 7 oz per week!! We havent started weaning so its not that. He is now 14 lb 3 oz at 6 months
