I went by myself this week though, usually if me and my oh go we spend more ..

That I also the first pack of nappies I bought for my lo and she still won't be using them for ages as I have Bout 4 months worth still left ...

I stocked up while pregnant!!

One I discovered yesterday : watch where you shop! I was dragged to ALDI by my mum yesterday on the way to Iceland and their fruit, veg and mince are actually miles better quality than anywhere else I've tried. I got 900g of fresh lean beef mince for £2.49, big try of mushrooms for 59p, 3 massive onions for 59p, 6 pack of bananas for 69p and a punnet of strawberries for 89p. Made a spag bol tonight and even OH said the difference in the veg was amazing! Iceland I like for their brand names like Coke, cereals etc, so much cheaper than the supermarket!

^I coupon too but in the UK the most you can save using coupons is about 50% (as an absolute maximum) because the restrictions on them are ridiculous xx

REALLY?! That stinks! I don't know if it would be worth the time if you only saved that much. I mean, I guess 50% is 50% but still.

I think in general food prices are lower in the UK so with the 50% it's a complete bargain for us :) and if you go late at night fresh food and other food close to its date gets reduced. I've had things for only 9p before :)

What's 8p? Do you know what it is in American money?

While I was in England I thought everything was so much more expensive!

Err you use cents right? About 4 cents maybe?

I've never been to America but my niece told me everything was so cheap.

Ours is anything between £60 and £80 per week for four of us. That doesn't include nappies and we don't use formula. We do a meal planner so heaven knows how it is so expensive. I guess fresh fruit, veg and meat all add up.

I've been to the US and we have various family there; foods made from corn or wheat and possibly dairy are subsidised because of government subsidies, so these tend to be extremely cheap compared to here, however fresh fruits and vegetables cost more than here, and nappies and formula cost more as well, the pack of pampers that costs around £9 here when not on offer and can be got for as little as £6 or £7 on offer was $21 in walmart on a supposed rollback (which they so copied off ASDA when they took them over!), when we went I thought nappies there would be cheaper so didn't bring any. Also kids clothing and supermarket own brand adult clothing were a lot more than here and in many cases the quality was nowhere near as good, but branded clothing (i.e. Nike, wrangler jeans etc) tended to be much cheaper. There are also different sales taxes in different states and some cities in the US have their own additional sales taxes, we just have one type of tax on shopping, VAT and most foods and other neccessities are excluded. In the UK our coupons aren't as good but there are better offers in the supermarkets IMHO, plus they do reductions everyday where short dated items are reduced to ridiculous prices (and in the more 'premium' supermarkets short dated means up to 5 days before they go out of date!), but yeah I wish the coupons were better here because nothing better than seeing ridiculous amounts of money disappearing off your shopping :D xx
