Hi all just a quick question, I was told I had a severe sinus infection after suffering terrible migraines for weeks. My dr out me on the z pak which she prescribed me and said safe while pregnant. It's been about a week and no improvement. I was wondering if anyone knew if it was safe to take another dosage. One usually never helps me. Thanks!

i dont know what z pak is but i was also suffering from a sinus infection and i got put on anti biotics which cleared it right up. they were penicillin based

I've been tamiflu for respiratory influenza, and than z-pak for a secondary infection following that. My z-pak was 500mg once a day for three days, and than it works for about 14 days following the last dosage. If your not feeling better and it hasn't been at least at least a week following the last dose, give it a couple more days. If it's been over a week and still suffering give them another jingle.

It's been a week my dr wrote me another perscription but I didn't talk to my ob

z-pak is pretty safe, you may end up with a yeast infection though- depending on how easily you get those while on antibiotics. Try to load up on tons of yogurt with active cultures to prevent it. Def. give your ob a call and let them know your on round 2 of zpak for a nasty sinus infection, doesn't hurt to just let them know what's going on with you. hope it clears up soon for you, i was sick for a month straight and nearly had a break down over it, so i can relate some- hang in there!

The Z pack itself is safe, but it only works if your secondary infection was bacterial and it was a bacteria that would respond effectively to the class of antibiotics that Z pack falls under. Sometimes the infections you get after you get sick with something else are bacterial and are sensitive enough for azithromycin to work, and sometimes they aren't. What you might have could just be viral (most infections are viral actually) or it might not be something that the Z pack is able to treat or you just might need longer to start feeling better.

I wouldn't take another course of it though without getting checked by your doctor first. If it didn't work the first time, it wouldn't work if you took it again. Actually, lots of bacteria is now resistant to the Z pack anyway because doctors prescribe it so often. You probably either need a different class of antibiotics altogether or you just need to wait it out and give it more time to get better. It's not quite the same thing, but I had pneumonia a few years ago and was on antibiotics for 2 weeks. But I still felt sick for another two months after that before the infection totally cleared out of my lungs even though technically I'd killed off all the bacteria that was causing it.

Antibiotics, especially if you're really sick, can kill off enough of the infection to help your body get a handle on things, but it doesn't mean you'll feel totally fine right away. It could take a week or several weeks or longer depending on whatever the original infection was until you feel back to normal. If you still feel crappy though, I'd see your doctor again to follow-up.

Yes a Z pack is safe. Ive taken it for a sinus infection while pregnant and baby is perfect!
