I am a concerned parent with my 11 month old baby boy. Maybe someone can give me some tips or say if this is normal, not normal, etc.
This is our first child, neither of us have much parenting skills and there's not a lot of ppl around to help us.
He's 11 months old.
What he does:
* He seems to respond to me calling his name about 25% of the time. The other time he ignores me looking at some toy or going to other rooms.
* He smiles and laughs when I make funny faces, or play peek-a-boo.
* He (just a few days ago) took his first couple steps by himself. He's been cruising around holding onto furniture for a couple months now.
* He tries to pick up small objects off the floor with his index finger and thumb. He misses sometimes, but he keeps trying until he gets the small object.
* He sleeps good from 7pm till about 1am, then he wakes up, we feed him, then he's out till 5 or 6.
* He likes to crawl while sliding with an object (like a controller) in one hand and moves with the other.
* When he wants to be held, he will come to us, stand up at our leg and grab us and try and pull himself up.
* He says 'baabaabaa' and 'daadaada' and 'maamaamaa', but not to us, we have to initiate it by saying it first, then he just starts babbling those words. He won't just say 'dada', he's often say 'dadadadadadadada' and be playing with his toy or whatever he's doing.
What he doesn't do:
* He doesn't clap, He seems to flail his arms and head when he's excited, but he doesn't clap his hands.
* He doesn't say 'mama' or 'dada' to us
* He doesn't seem to understand when I say 'Go get the truck' or 'where is the truck' (speaking about his little toy truck he likes).
* He won't bring anything to us nor will he gently put stuff down (it's always a throwing motion)
* He isn't feeding himself, when we put small 'cheerio like' food in his tray, he picks it up and throws it. When we put a cookie like food, he may put it in his mouth, but then immediately has a bad look on his face and takes it out and throws it.
* He doesn't drink from a cup, nor does he hold it (he throws it or pushes it off the table).
* He doesn't point at stuff
Other things we've noticed:
* He doesn't like to drink the bottle as much, he does in the morning (during night) and at night, but during the day he doesn't seem to like it. We end up mixing it with cereal and feeding by spoon. We also feed him vegetables and fruit from the baby food containers.
From stuff I've read online, he should be doing most of the stuff in the doesn't list. So, I am a bit concerned. Should we be worried? What could the problem be? What should we do?
Thanks
