Hi there,

I've posted this in the baby and toddler forums coz not sure if it's a baby thing, toddler thing or both!! But as my dd is almost one and walking I'd say she's almost a toddler but still maybe a baby lol!!

Anyways, she used to love her baths, she'd play for ages and would cry when I took her out, usually even if she was in a bad mood as soon as she got in the bath she'd cheer right up! But for the past two weeks she has cried whenever she has been put in the bath and I have no idea why! I've checked the water, made sure her toys are ready, used bubble bath, NOT used bubble bath, and tonight tried getting in with her and she just clung on to me and continued crying as if she was scared! I quickly washed her (as she had yoghurt jm her hair so she needed a bath) but then got straight out. I don't want to keep making her have baths like this coz some nights she doesn't need them, but I also don't want this fear to carry on by avoiding baths iykwim?

She's had a cough and cold recently so she has been more clingy to me anyway but she acts like this with my df and my mum too when I'm at work so not sure if the illness is related?

Anyone else experienced this? What did you do, did you stop baths unless necessary for a while or just keep at it til they started enjoying it again? I hate seeing her cry like that as she's usually so independent and used to be excited for bath time!!

TIA!

It's a very common phase for babies to go through. At my sons swimming classes the instructor explained that most children experience water wobbles from around 8 months to 2 years. It can even affect them having baths. They're not entirely sure why it happens, it may have to do with then being more aware of the fact they are being immersed in water. But they do get over it eventually if you persevere. She said that those who have water wobbles end up being the ones with the most confidence in water later in life.
I know it doesn't help you now but you can at least be happy knowing its normal and won't last forever. Just keep bath times fun! With lots of toys.

Thanks Hun! I had googled and noticed a lot of babies seem to go through this. Good to know it's a recognised thing! Hope she gets through it soon, bathtime is a nightmare at the mo!
