So my LO is 12months now and still hasnt grown out the putting everything in her mouth. I keep sitting on the floor trying to teach her stuff and shes more interested in putting whatever it is in her mouth. My friends little boy doesn't do this and I rarely see others of her age doing this.. Is this normal?

Tom is 19 months and he still loves putting things in his mouth. If his dummy isn't in then he sticks anything slightly chewy in instead.

I wouldn't worry that your friend's LO doesn't do it still and yours do. They all develop at different rates and like Tom, she might just really like the feel of things in her mouth and could be doing it for that reason rather than because she hasn't grown out of it yet.

Omar didnt put things in his mouth when he was a baby, not even food. He started to put things in his mouth after his birthday when he finally started to have teeth & only for few weeks. Now when he's teething, he will chew his Sophie or a rubber toy & that's it.

Andrew is like hattiehippo's Tom - everything goes into his mouth - except food!! Pass him a toy, it goes into his mouth. Pass him something edible, even a toyshaped piece of food, and he puts it down to move onto something else.

DD is 22 months and still chews on everything. DS didn't stop until he was about 2.5 yrs old.

My Lo puts everything in her mouth, she will find the littlest things ever that no-one else can see and put it straight in. At her 10-12 month check the Hv asked this and then ticked a box, said it was absoutly normal

Eloise has just started putting everything in her mouth at 18.5 months. She hasn't really bothered even when teething before now.

Yep everything goes into my 13 month olds mouth. Stones, toys, fluff you name it. Im not too concerned as its just his way of exploring :) (as long as he doesnt swallow it!!) xx

Rebecca still puts everything in her mouth. She's 18 months.

its how they explore things =) my Hv says it will take a while before they dont do it anymore lol xxx

My daughter is 22 months old and everything goes in her mouth. Her favourites are DVD boxes and cardboard, preferably cardboard books. We've had to take those off her as she quite literally eats them.
But give her a biscuit, quaver or anything else edible and it gets thrown on the floor and mashed in. All very annoying!!

Megan is just slowing down with putting everything in her mouth. Some kids are much more oral fixated than others. One of my daycare moms didnt have to childproof for her first child. He never put anything in his mouth - she could leave anything and everything out and he would never put it in his mouth. THen with her 2nd child - she wanted to put everything in her mouth. she never realized what a difference their could be with 2 children - esp. siblings.

Its one reason that a lot of toys with small parts say age 3 and up - because by the age of three most all kids have grown out of putting the toys in their mouth.
