Tried posting this in the postnatal section, but after getting no responses, thought this might be the better place for it :).

Hi,

It's been a while since I've been on this site, but thought I'd come here for a little advice before going to my doctor. So I'm 12 months PP with my 3rd child and have not had my period yet. With my other two children my period returned 7 months after they were born. I am still breastfeeding, but I was at this time with my other children as well. I'm not sure what is going on and the only reason why I'm starting to get worried is because DH and I want to start TTC for baby #4 early next year. I'm eating roughly 2100-2300 calories a day (I've started to track to make sure I'm eating enough) and the only thing that has changed between this baby and the last two, is that now I'm a bit more active and work out at a gym 3-4 days a week on average.

Does anyone have any insight? I would love to keep up with the breastfeeding if I can, I'm willing to stop if need be, but also worried that it won't bring back my period.

I know it is just anecdotal, but I know people who have got pregnant while bf despite not having their periods back!

Mine came back at 13 months pp. Some people don't get theirs back for the entire time they're breastfeeding, some get theirs back even later than I did. Perfectly normal. I'd just see how it goes until you're ready to TTC and then go from there if you haven't gotten your period by then. I don't see any reason why your cycles wouldn't return after you've stopped feeding but I think it can take some time for things to kick back into gear.

I have heard the average time to get it back is 14.5 months, but I have also heard it is usually close to the same with all your children. Good luck in getting it figured out!

My period returned at 9 months pp. I don't work out and I eat about 3000 calories a day as I eat the kids leftovers plus mine I'm so greedy! Can't stand wasting food. I have not lost any weight needless to say lol in the same as I was the day I gave birth. Maybe try eating more and stop working out if that's something that is different this time? Sorry I can't give you any proper advice but can only go by what I'm doing. I also still take my pregnancy multi vitamins.

Also I think you are pretty awesome to find time to work out at a gym 3 times a week whilst having 3 kidos and especially havinga 12 month old to chase around too, I would be exhausted!

Hi there. =)
I had my first pp period with my youngest son when he was 14 months and luckily fell pregnant first cycle. My son continued to feed until my milk dried up around 30 weeks but started again when my daughter was born so I'm now tandem feeding which is going well.
I remember feeling worried about not having a period for so long as with my eldest daughter my period came back around 7 months and I fell pregnant with DS1 when she was 9 months.
I have no advice on getting your cycles to come back sooner but just to let you know that it is normal. We knew we wanted a 4th but didn't want to officially 'try' so we just waited to see what would happen which definitely took the stress off it. Good luck with ttc =)

Thanks everyone. Will maybe have to start trying a little earlier and see where that takes us.

Do you still nurse in the middle of the night? I got by period back around 14 months, right after stopping the nighttime feeding. If you are, maybe dropping that feeding would do the trick.

No I'm not nursing in the middle of the night anymore. It's been a while since I've had to.
