When I was pregnant with my DD I went to a private ultrasound place to find out the gender at 16 weeks. Just now I was looking at the packages they offer and they now have an option for a gender reveal at 13 weeks, they guarantee 99% accuracy, and a return visit at 16 weeks to confirm and get 100% accuracy.

But my concern is that I've always heard that 13 weeks is too early to be accurate. But surely they wouldn't claim to be so accurate if they made a lot of mistakes right?

Would you do it at 13 weeks or wait til 16? I know it's only 3 weeks difference but I'm only barely 5 weeks and I'm already so excited to find out what we're having.

I would wait personally. I am not that anxious to find out gender, but I would be afraid of the accuracy that early.

I agree, while it'd be fun to know I'd be worried about the accuracy. I'd just wait until the 16 week mark. I'm almost 5 weeks as well and I'm already super excited too :)

My baby was scanned as a boy at 12 weeks and the fetal specialist said girl 4 days later. She was then confirmed as a girl via chromosome testing. So yeah. Inacurrate unless the person REALLY knows their nubs.

Well their website says..

Many costumers are skeptical that we can actually determine the gender at such an early gestation...however, we have been using this technology for nearly four years and have had overwhelming success! We have preformed thousands of Early Gender ultrasounds, and have been incorrect less than 5 times!

Seems like it's pretty accurate. I'm still not sure though. I would like the 3D aspect at least. I still have 8 weeks to decide.

I personally wouldn't do it because we don't want to find out the gender, but if you are desperate to know the gender I don't see any problem. Especially if they follow it up with a 16 week scan to confirm the gender. I just wouldn't get too excited with the first result until it's confirmed at 16 weeks. Let us know what decision you make.

The more I think about it technology is just unbelievable nowadays. Finding out gender at 12-13 weeks gestation is amazing!

I had a 13 week scan with DD and it was clear as day that she was a girl.

Total nonsense, i had a scan at 12+2 this week and was talking to the sonographer about nub analysis etc she had over 20 years experience in midwifery and as a sonographer and said in reality even if you were holding a 12-13 week baby in your hand you would have a very hard time determining gender. What's the rush you have a good chance of getting it right at 20 weeks and a 100% success rate at birth, it won't change a thing :)

I think I would do it!! I mean, it won't hurt! It's just an extra opportunity to see your little bean! :) Even if they are wrong the first time, at least you got to see something in there and they'll correct it at 16 weeks!

I wouldn't do it. I wouldn't want them to be wrong!!

If they let you come back at 16wks I dont see what doing it at 13wks could hurt. Just dont buy anything during that 3wk wait is all.

That's amazing gender can be determined so early with such a high accuracy! I didn't go to a clinic specialized in gender determination but I do remember the ultrasound at 12 weeks with my youngest and the gyn was nearly sold on baby being a boy because of seemingly clear signs pointing to that. Well, at 16 weeks we were told the opposite, haha! I have heard they look quite similar, male and female parts around that time but who knows, I'm sure modern technology is making early dertermination a breeze! :)

At 13 weeks I wouldn't, I'd certainly wait til 16 or even 20 weeks. 13 weeks is probably still 50/50 as genitals are still swollen.

I had a scan at 13 weeks and my OB said "don't sue me if I'm wrong, but I think I see a penis." She was right and my scan in week 15 confirmed.

I think depending on if the cost is in your budget, I'd go for it.

I wouldn't. I personally don't believe you could find out so early. Us, I don't really see the point if you can't get excited or buy anything because they need to "confirm" it at 16 weeks again, seems a bit pointless to me lol. If I were having a 3D/4D scan, I'd also wait until baby is a lot older in gestation just so you could see a nicer picture.
But it's totally up to you.

It is really guessing that early on as the genitals are still forming. If they are going to let you come back later and you want to do I say go for it though! :)

This time around we are going to find out gender around 12 weeks with our testing, the Harmony test. I can't wait, almost there!

my friend works at an OB office and found out at 12 weeks with her boy. The genitals are already formed. Just really small. I am going to be going around 14 weeks just because I was to see the baby and it is only 25 dollars for a 10 min dvd of the ultrasound and they do the gender. I will be going to dr around 16-20 weeks anyways for the dr to tell me too... I am not worried if they are wrong. But then again, this is my first and I really do not have a preference. I think it is amazing that they can find out so early. The place I am going to has really good reviews and no one said they were wrong... they were amazed that they were actually right :)
