14 months+ TTC?

Hi Mrskc, you sound like you have been through the wringer! Dh and I are coming up on 3 years trying, and if I don't get a bfp by then I think I will go nuts! There's no way we will ever be able to afford IVF...Thats why we made a groups over in the ttc buddies for those of us who don't have the option (and hopes) for IVF. I have done clomid in the past but failed. After I get my HSG I am going to ask my doctor about other kinds of medication, since I'm pretty sure I'm O'ing.. just not catching the egg! Being unexplained can be so heartbreaking sometimes...I wish it were more simple.

Yes I have but its ok. God has my back. I know how hard it is, and i know how you feel. Kinda like a failure. Have you ever tried Femara?:hugs:

Hi I am on 10.5 years TTC now!!

I'm sorry so many of us are having problems conceiving. I find it really hard too. Just last week we were at the point of being 'unexplained' but OH and I had an appt with FS where we found out that my OH has antibodies in his sperm which is causing his sperm to be basically "killed off", so no chance of natural :bfp:. It's taken over 8 months and 3 samples of SA to find this out. I'm just wondering how common this actually is and many others who are unexplained could have the same diagnosis.

I've been getting acupuncture too since the start of the year and I would recommed it to everyone. My cycles were slight erratic but now the last two cycles have been O on CD14 and AF on CD29. Perfect 28 day cycles.

Anyway hope this may have given some "food for thought"

Good luck ladies in your quest for a :bfp:

DH and I started trying in 7/05, so I guess we tried for about 30 months before we got lucky. We did three rounds of IUI (intrauterine insemination), they never said anything about DH's morphology then. That ended in an ectopic and I just had to take a break. We were still trying, but decided to move on to adoption. That also fell through, so we took some time while I wrote my dissertation and moved for my post-doctoral fellowship. Luckily my insurance covers IVF, and the clinics here in DC are much better than back in Missouri, so we went in and got lucky on our first IVF round.

What helped me most going through all of this was to go to counseling. Just having someone who was unbiased to talk to about things, like the guilt I felt, and how I had somehow done something to deserve this, was such a great relief for me. I also made sure I had some other hobbies, like cross-stitching or crocheting, to help take my mind off stuff when it just got to intense.

Sorry to ramble so much, hope something in this mess helps out!

:happydance:Congrats!

Im afraid that after IUI if we dont conceive, what happens next when we cant afford IVF? My insurance wont even cover IUI, and I work as a teacher for a major school system:shrug:. Can I ask the round about cost for your IVF? Also can I ask which insurance do you have? Its such a blessing to have insurance that covers these things. I may even cancel my insurance and just privately pay for my families insurance. It seems the ones that we get through my company are always expensive but I still come out of pocket for a lot, so its a though what am I paying for every 2 weeks???

A lot of fertility clinics will work with you in regards to payments (even as far a working out second mortgages and such if that's what you want). It is becoming fairly common now for there to be 'deals' like 3 rounds for the price of one, or some sort of reimbursement if the rounds don't work. It really varies.

I have insurance through my job, it is Blue Cross Blue Shield CareFirst of MD. We are extremely fortunate to only have to pay our $10 co-pay per office visit, everything else is covered. So total on office visits and meds we've probably spent around $200. I think actual cost w/o insurance is around $8000.

I know things will work out for both of us! Because yes He does have our backs!! :hugs:
No I havent tried Femara, have you? I think that is what I'm going to be asking about Thursday. It's really kind of exciting.. maybe something will change instead of being at a stand still!

Hi MrsK! I have been trying for 18 months! I can't believe it's been that long already.
I have PCOS as well and did 4 cycles of clomid alone last year with my ob/gyn, but I didn't even ovulate on it. I got referred to a RE in February and we did all the labs and tests, and I got started on Actoplusmet ( a combination of Actos and metformin) last month. Re wants me on it for 3 months to sort out my hormones before trying clomid again ( that is if no bfp by the end of 3 months).

I'm trying to take my mind off this whole ttc for the next 3 months, but it's damn too hard to do! :(

Oh wow, never heard of Actoplusmet...cool. They have so much out here. I take metformin extended release + clomid. I too had months where I didnt O on clomid. Once I started taking metformin, I ovulate every single month for about 7-8 months now. So i think the combo will be a great thing for you and you may very well get BFP with it!:hugs:

I will be seriously thrilled when I start ovulating every month like you :)
Use of Actoplusmet in PCOS is sorta new compared to metformin, and my Re believes that it works better. I can't really say much about it at the moment, since it hasn't started working for me yet.

Hi I am on 10.5 years TTC now!!

Oh wow. What are you doing to conceive? Any meds or treatments? Good luck honey!:hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs:

I have tried umpteen cycles of Clomid and I have taken Metformin for a year for my PCOS. I had IVF last year that was cancelled due to poor response and I have my nurses chat today to discuss trying again in summer.

I have lost nearly 2 stone now and bmi is in the ideal range nearly so fingers crossed for better luck this time round!!

Hi,

Just thought I would add my story. DH and I have been trying to conceive our 4th child for 16 months now. I had no problems conceiving my 3 children, two of whom were unplanned surprises and the one we did try for I fell pregnant on the second cycle. So here I am a few years down the line (my youngest is 6 years old) and struggling. We have had 2 SA's which came back okay. My husband has a high sperm count and volume but low morphology (3%) we were told that the numbers were still good regardless. I have had Cd3 test done, (all okay) and CD21 tests done 3 times and found to have low progesterone levels (24,25 and 27). Had 2 trans-vaginal scans and 2 HSG's. The second HSG showed my left fallopian tube is blocked and I have an "unusual" shaped uterus. The FS said it may have always been blocked we will never know and that my uterus can't be that unusual as it housed 3 babies. I have finally been prescribed clomid 50mg and am on my first cycle using it and praying I will ovulate.

I know I am very lucky to have three lovely children and some would say I should be satisfied with what I have but I cannot quash this insatiable desire to have another baby. xx

I'm waiting to O too. I'm praying the clomid will work for me. I will be doing my first opk this afternoon.

I hope this is our lucky cycle. Is May the month for miracles? :)

I think it is the month of miracles. I think I am going to start testing in 2 days because most boxes only have 7 tests in them. I buy the ones with the smiley faces because I dont have time for guessing games. I want to know am I ovulating or not:winkwink:

Good luck and hopefully this is the month for miracles and anniversary gifts for my hubby:haha:

Aw our anniversaries are near MrsC - Mine is on Sunday. Can't believe it's been a year since we got married.... Hope you get your anniversary bfp - I'd like one too, on an opk!

Hi hun just to say OPKs are not always reliable with Clomid as they show surges when they are not always the O surge due to the drug just keep going even if you see a surge now xx

Q: Does Clomid cause problems with OPKs?

A: Clomid (Serophene/clomiphene citrate) can cause a false positive in OPKs if taken too soon after finishing the prescription. According to most of the manufacturers you should wait at least 3 days before using an OPK. If you take Clomid days 3-7 you can begin testing on day 10. If you take it 5-9, you should wait until day 12.

Oh yeah I do know this. I have been using clomid forever. So when I OPK I do know that its an accurate one. Good luck!
