I'm so stressed as i have no idea about solids and what to do..I got some apple puree and tried it an hour after his bottle at midday.but he just screwed his face up.I wanted to start at six months but the doctor said that i should really try now, he weighed in at 7 kgs today. Its all happening so fast and as First time mum I have no idea how to feed.I mean the bottle is easy but this is a huge transition:( I feel kind of lost already.
She didn't even mention BLW.... and deep down thats how i wanted to start. But today just felt like failure he didn't even really understand or was interested in the apple puree.Should i wait longer or should I keep trying and just hang in there and try and be confident. Hes not sitting up and isn;t showing interest in our food.....

If you and baby are not ready then wait. The guidelines her in the uk are 6 months. Your baby will be fine if you wait and then you can do BLW not just purees.

Why on Earth did she say that?! I'd totally ignore her if I were you. You had the right idea before you went to see her and shouldn't doubt yourself x

The worst thing is even my mother is chiming in buying some rice cereal and pouches of food and offering them to me.Its pretty difficult when he doesn't even sit up.Its not like hes grabbing at my food either i eat in front of him and he shows no interest just looks at me blankly....sheesh its stressful not knowing what to do.

It shouldn't be stressful sweet. And from what you've said it sounds like your LO is no where near ready.

If he's not ready then he's not ready. You shouldn't feel pressured to force-feed your kid! If your doctor brings it up again just say that you tried and he wasn't interested.

He's nowhere near ready, I can't believe your doctor said that to you. Ignore her, wait until your LO is sitting up and interested in food.

Hi hun,
I've basically had the same experience today at my girls 4 month check up. Doctor said I should start solids. I'm going to ignore him and wait until 6 months and/ or until my baby and I are ready for solids.
Btw my lo weights only 6.08 kg. so yours has a great weight for that age!

oh really that seems to be the norm, the docs pushing the food at 4 months.as i said my lo not able to sit up without any assistance yet......how can i feed him.

Just had a health nurse contradict my doctor saying start solids at six months! go figure

You know your little one best! As someone already said, guidelines in the UK are 6 months so your little one won't suffer if you decide he isn't ready for solids. And to be honest, if he's not interested and not supporting himself it doesn't sound like he is.

I used to go to a baby feeding group and they put a lot of emphasis on saying that if you wait until baby is developmentally ready for food, then you know their digestive system will be ready too. Developmentally ready meaning they can sit with a little support, hold their head well, pick up food and transfer it into their mouth, and no longer have that reflex which makes them push food out with their tongue.

At the risk of sounding like a BLW cheerleader, I will say I was so glad we picked this method. It was so low stress (compared to worrying about whether purees were thin enough etc) and so much fun for baby.
