*****Water birth/1st baby/all natural labour/Baby boy/10pounds1ounce/No need for stitches!****
July 9th, I'd had a few, what I believed was braxton hick contractions and although slightly painful, I kept myself busy and didn't really focus on them.
That night, at 10pm I lost the start of my plug, and at 11pm, my bloody show was soo obviously coming out! I decided to go to sleep as I believed it'd be ages away.
July 10th- at 2:36am I woke up with really strong contractions. Timing them, they were every 5 minutes and lasting 10-15 seconds.
At 4am they were lasting 30 seconds and getting even stronger...I was laying on all 4s, shaking my bum and growling at my cat
By 1pm, they were coming every 4 minutes, lasting a minute each time and I was definitely in pain. We waited it out as long as we could at home, then at 2.30pm, went to the hospital. At this point, my contractions were coming every 3 minutes, lasting up to a minute and a half!
At first, the midwife was adamant I was only 2cm without even checking me, as I was 'so calm' but after I had a few contractions, she checked me and I was 5cm and my 'waters were bulging!'
I had no birth plan, to avoid disappointment, so was up for anything as long as it was medically necessary. I ended up having a water birth and said the only pain relief I wanted was gas and air!
When we got into the room with the pool, I remember my mum, OH and me casually having a cup of tea, and biscuits and just waiting until I was ready to get in the pool.
At 4.30pm I got into the pool, with my nightie still on and it was sooo relieving! I was still on my gas and air and the labour flew by, as the gas and air was making me calmer and very sleepy, I was sleeping through most of it!
I began pushing at 18:25, and Leo James Tooey was out by 18:44!
He's perfect...although he's very ginger and weighed a whooping 10 pounds 1 ounce!
I didn't tear though, thanks to the water and because I controlled my pushing and did these weird but wonderful light pushes!
