I have my 1st hospital appointment this afternoon, and dh can no longer get the time off work (due to people off sick), he told me late last night. Obviously I am NOT a happy bunny and don't particularly want to go on my own, but don't want to cancel either coz its short notice and I may not get another appointment for ages.

What would you do? I am really stuck on what I should do
Thanks

I'm presuming this is more into assisted conception than a simple check up, right? Will there be any procedure being done, are you in the middle of treatment or is it a first meeting with a RE?

If it's the latter and you feel emotionally up to it, I'd advise you go without him. For any procedure or treatment bit at all it would be preferable you weren't alone though. With that said, different women need different things, at the clinic we went to there were plenty of women alone for EC and ET as well! I never even gave him a break when I went for normal scans, after all we were in this together! Now regular gyn appointments I go to alone.

I agree, still go. If it were me, I know I'd prefer him to come, but the wait for the next appointment would be worse than going alone. You could take a friend/fam member with you, if you have someone you're close too and it wouldn't be too weird?
Good luck :)

Yeah, we having been ttc since Jan 07, so after having blood tests done on cd21 and some swabs done (everything ok with both) we have decided to see what happens next.

DH's work are being really cr@p and he has struggled all summer to even get an appointment to see his doc to organise a SA. - He's managed to do that for tomorrow, and he has promised me he won't let work stop him going to that

Sarah - I agree I really want him there, but I daren't risk losing this appointment

If it's a first appointment chances are there won't be much in the way of action. You may get an internal scan -he wouldn't have been very helpful with that LOL- and a very long conversation in which you will repeat basic things and wonder if the RE thinks you're 12 and don't know how to read or something when you're actually a specialist on fertility by now! There will be a bunch of questions on your history -and if he's like most guys he'll have little valuable input on that as well :) So by all means, go!

It's great he can get away for his SA though, that one you couldn't have done without him!

:happydance: Much nagging later - dh has told work how important this appointment is and that he needs to be there. They're aren't happy about it, but he's coming with me :cloud9:

Well done! Good news! Let us know how it worked out. Do you have a list of questions?

Thats great Sinead, hope it goes well :)

No, I think we are just going to play it by ear - although I might email dh now and see what his worries are and if he can think of any.

As I am ov-ing and have regular cycles - I don't think I will need clomid so just want to see what the next stage is. My doctor did give a bit of idea what to expect - she mentioned a lap-thingy to see if my tubes are blocked and she also mentioned the possibility of IVF

Will keep you updated - thanks

Hi sinead

Hope your hospital appointment went okay and your DH doesn't get a hard time from work for taking the time off. Employers really suck don't they?

Oh to be able to afford not to work!!!

Hi again!!!

Today went fantastic (in a mad kinda way).
My GP is absolutely on the
ball with everything and did all my blood tests and swabs prior to this appointment. Even some of the blood tests I didn't need ie I now know I'm not menapausal!!!! The only 1 she forgot was my rubella check, but as I need a 2nd day 21 day progesterone I can get it done at the same time (in 9 days). I also had a internal (yuk), but that showed no probs with me, and I should be getting an HSG in about 4-8 weeks (bigger yuk by the sounds of it).
Because dh hasn't had his sperm test and we thought we were going to have to go to a different hospital for that - she has given us the details and we do that at this hospital too, am hoping he can get that sorted for the same time as my bloods.
Basically she said the outcome would be as long as everything is ok with both of us, they will put me on clomid (I presume as she gave it a different name, but its for ovulation), even though I am ovulating as she explained that it may encourage the body to increase the hormones. We will take that for 6 months and go from there if that doesn't work.
We will see the nurse and consultant about 3-4 times over the next 6 months - so I am pleased about that.
Oh, and I seem to have grown 2'' (5'5 to 5'7) and lost 1/2 stone!!!!!!

Thanks for your support it really helped (and maz - I plan to win the lottery soon!!!!!!)

I'm happy for you :happydance:
It always feels better to have an action plan. I'm sure you'll get your :bfp: soon.

fantastic, how have you grown 2 inches?? i need some of whatever your taking! im only 5"4! sounds like your appt went really well. Im at my second fertility appt at the end of the month and im hoping they'll prescribe clomid x

That's brilliant hun - I'm so glad that things are moving forward for you! :hugs:

I'm so pleased all went well for you yesterday. Your GP seems really on the ball, and your consultant seems to have done the same things as my first one. I had the bloods, internals, and HSG, and DH had a SA done. Everything came back normal, and as the hospital I was at couldn't do any more for us, they prescribed clomid to 'help boost' my ovulation, and referred me to the hospital that has the funding to carry out IVF procedures. The consultant there told me to stop taking clomid immediately, as it would be of no benefit whatsoever, and he didn't agree with putting chemicals into my body when it wasn't necessary.

I think there may be some other ladies on here that were initially told to take clomid even though they were ovulating normally. It is very confusing at times - one supposed expert tells you one thing and another tells you something else. Hopefully your HSG will show nothing abnormal and the clomid will work for you.

BTW - you can't win the lottery cos I'm going to instead!!!

heehee

Glad your appointment went well. It's the best of feelings to know you're finally on your way to getting the bubba and specialists will look over you so that you get there safely, isn't it?

That's not to say it will last forever, the more you Google, the more time passes you'll start to notice cracks in their perfect facade, doubt the plan, question the medication....

Funny how our relationships with our fertility specialists are similar with our romantic relationships LOL

You grew two inch?!? How did you manage that? Woot for the half a stone though!

When did they say you'll have the results of the SA? Oh and on the practical side, do a bit of research on HSG. I for one thought it was far too dangerous to be worth it before our treatment.

I took my best friend to my first appointment as my hubby couldn't make it and she was great support. Helped that she's a nurse!

Hi Sinead, glad that it went well for you! I'm basically 6 months ahead of you in that I have just finished my last month of clomid!

Hope that it works for you!
X

Glad the appointment went well - good luck with the HSG and clomid
