I had my first prenatal appointment today and was excited that they were going to do an ultrasound. I had a miscarriage at 15 weeks +5 back in January and never got to have an ultrasound with that pregnancy. As soon as the Dr. adjusted the monitor she asked "Do twins run in your family?". We said no, but she said she could see two fetal poles, one yolk sac, and a couple of flickerings (heartbeats) on the monitor. I could distinctly see the yolk sac, one fetus and the shadow of the second fetal pole, but the Dr. explained the ultrasound machine was older and very grainy, thus they could not get a better picture today. She said the other fetal pole she saw could be a twin or "remnants" and they scheduled me for a 2nd ultrasound using a high powered machine in 2 weeks. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?
