My little boy was 7 ibs 1 ozwhen we left hospital and 19.3 inches

At 9 weeks, he is 9 lbs 14 oz and 23 inches

I was hoping he would be over 10 lbs....seems so low.

He smiled at 6 weeks...cooing and smiling likecrazy.... He is strong, pushes himself to stand on our laps.

My hubby said he looks small but toned. He has no pudge,

Doc is ok with it.

Sounds great! Don't stress, every baby is different. I've breastfed all mine, my first was always tiny (much smaller than yours), my second was a chubby monkey, and this one is in the middle. All are healthy and strong.

Ok, it is just so worrisome, I am used to pudgy babies...and he is definitely not that...but super healthy it seems.

He slept last night from 11 pm to 5:30 am, I woke up panicked that he hadnt ate all night because he normally only sleeps four hours at night. I try to stick to 2-3 hours during the day max between feeds. He woke up with smiles but defintely hungry.

My son has only gained about 6oz more than that and doctor etc is extremely happy with his weight too. Some babies are not huge gainers, weight is not the main indicator of healthy growth xx

Is your baby only 1 month? My boy is 9.5 weeks

He's 9.5 weeks too I just go on here on my phone and the website with the tickers doesn't work well on here. He was born 8lb 14 now 12lb 2 approx. He has never gained more than 7oz a week xx

ETA: I have 5 boys all BF at this stage, and their weight gain varied from an average 4oz a week to 16oz a week. BF is perfect for helping them gain the amount of weight that is perfect for them as an individual

Ok thank you so much for the re-assurance...we have family wedding tomorrow and I will hear how small he is from 2 of my sisters and Mom....

He sure is a happy fun guy and I was just shocked when they weighed him.

I would just ignore them, everyone has their unwelcome opinions. It's all down to perception anyway, my youngest isn't a huge gainer though he is quite long I don't think he is that chubby but everyone remarks how huge and chunky he is when he really isn't. My second youngest who is now a toddler is really tall, above average weight for his age and has a massive head yet I get people asking how old he is and when I say 2.5 years they are like 'really? Wow he's really small for his age I would've thought he was about 18 months'. Honestly people are just crazy when it comes to this stuff xx

It sounds like your baby is just perfect!

I also get the 'huge baby' thing with Sophie, and 'tiny toddler' with Thomas. Sophie is hovering between the 2nd and 9th percentile for length and is average weight at 18lbs for her age, so she's the small one! And Thomas is above 50th for height and weighs 36lbs so he's not tiny. He's not fat either, hé's pretty muscular, he likes to lift 'weights' (kettle bells) like his dad.

All babies have their own genetic weight and height that is right for them, and breastmilk is the perfect thing to give them to achieve this. My girl is growing much slower than my boy and it's all normal. She was heavier than him at birth by 300 grams, but by 9 month weigh ins he was heavier by her than 600 grams.

Docs tend to freak out about weight gain for the smallest reason so if the doc isn't worried thats a good sign!
