I literally just got I to my car...the person who gave the ultrasound wouldn't say a word as she did her measurements...it started to worry me..I was in there for about an hour...afterwards I asked her if everything looked ok and she just told me that the dr has to diagnose....please help! Is this a bad sign?

Not at all!! I'm pg with #5, and depending on what tech u get, they won't tell u much. I've had techs give me a little more info than others. The tech I had at 10wks with this one said the same thing, and everything was fine. They just say that because since their not Drs , they can't "diagnose". They told us the same thing in nursing school.

At my 20 week scan last week, the ultrasound tech was not great. She barely spoke to us, said the baby has "all its parts", and didn't offer the gender. She did not confirm whether "all its parts" were healthy or normal. I had to wait to speak with my doctor.

It's not their job to diagnose and give results. If there's is something wrong you would have questions and a treatment plan, and that's what Dr does so checking with the Dr is always best. Also if there was anything abnormal the Dr would come in after the scan to address concerns. In health care sometimes no news is good news.

They're not allowed to tell you anything because they're not doctors. I know it's hard to sit there and have them do everything without word. But it's my understanding that they could lose their job of they tell you anything.

Sorry your going through that. Unfortunately you are at the mercy of the tech. Sometimes you get a good one that loves their job and shows and explains stuff, says when things "look good" and other times you get someone who woke up on the wrong side of the bed or generally hate their job and tell you nothing with their poker face on. I'm sure everything is just fine, you just got the grumpy tech. Let us know when you hear from your doc!

That sounds awful! Sonographers always tell you their findings here as they are scanning you.

That's horrible! Sounds like a bad tech! When I go to my OB/GYN I only see him or his physicians assistant and they are the only ones who do my scans (and I have a scan at every appointment).

Thank you...thats what ive been telling myself...that the tech just hates her job and just does what shes trained. She was very friendly at all. Im going to call my dr and leave a message that the tech left me very unsettled and if she can please call me when she gets my chart. Otherwise my appointment isnt until july 23. I ASKED her if she finds something wrong if my dr would call me sonner and she said yes. So im hoping for good news. Thank you again and i will definitley update my thread.

Just heard back from my dr office...she said everything on the scan looked normal...so far so good then and that takes some weight off my chest. Thanks for the support ladies..

I'm glad your scan results came back well. I think its a bit mean not to tell you as they do the scan, here at least every time they gave a measurement they would say the word "normal" after so I was always reassured X

Yeah I know...while I realize they cannot diagnose anything problems, but she was just not sensitive at all...she only kept stressing us out...my husband as "does he have all ten fingers and ten toes"? And she replied "we don't count fingers and toes"...she want even telling us what she was looking at or measuring...all she said was we needed to speak to our dr...do glad it's over now..

Really thou would it have killed her to say that from what she sees everything seems ok but to wait for your dr and just to let them know and be reassured...Ive never had a tech be that harsh in bedside manner.....

That's what I told them...that this is my fourth baby so I'm not new to the game of ultrasounds...and while she's "not a dr" and "can't diagnose", I'm STILL a customer...and there's such a thing called customer service...we pay good money to have the medical insurance we have and I expect them to treat their patients a little better for the quality if care they claim to have...

That is just ridiculous. :growlmad:

Every time I have my scans they book the doctor's appt right behind it so that I have the results in 30 min or less. But the tech is usually really good about telling me how the baby is measuring and that everything looks good. I do go to an OB clinic though so maybe that is why. They specialize in babies and ultrasounds. I'm so sorry you had a bad experience. They really need to realize that this is a once in a lifetime thing for some women and they need to be nice and informative.
