21 weeks, 14lb gain

Does this sound like too much? I'm not eating as much now as in 1st tri (when I had to keep eating to suppress the nausea), but my appetite is still pretty huge, and I don't want to be too strict, since I've almost fainted quite a few times.

I'm trying to stick to healthier food, with the odd treat, and am doing some mild-moderate exercise - walking and stationary cycling, and going to start going back to the pool this week.

I just worry because I know the rate of weight gain picks up in the second half of pregnancy and I don't want to gain too much, as I really struggle to lose weight.

Normally I'm a size 10-12 UK, but my weight hovers on the upper end of the 'normal' BMI range for my height. I was a couple of pounds into the 'overweight' zone when I conceived.

I feel like I've got bigger all over, especially bum, thighs, and upper arms, and my stomach just feels blobby, though there is a bump in there somewhere.

This is me yesterday at 21 weeks:

Sorry i got to start off with im saying its a girl :p

As for 14lb by half way i think that is great work.
I gained 14lb from 2nd tri till end. 24lb in total.

Thank you, that is so reassuring :D

I'd love it if I could keep my weight gain under 30lb, 24lb total would be amazing but it'd mean only 10lb gain for the next 19 weeks, I don't think I'll manage that. Well done to you, though, that's amazing!

Did you have a strategy for weight control? Or are you naturally lucky?

(and I have a feeling it's a girl, too, but nearly everyone in my October due dates group is :blue: - maybe I'll be one of the minority...just over 4 months to go to find out )

I've also gained 14lb and I'm 21 weeks, I'm going to try and have a few lower calorie days each week for the next few weeks to try and maintain until 25 weeks - not sure if this will make a difference as I won't be dieting but we will see xx

Honestly i'm in the exact same situation. I didn't put on much last time, but now everywhere is big, not just my bump. And my bump is the same size at 23w as it was at 36w last time. I'm trying not to worry, and just cutting out the junk i'd let slip in. Don't forget you will burn more calories 3rd tri, so I just plan on keeping my portion sizes smaller to compensate. You will lose it when you have the baby, so long as you don't go mad when you're pregnant.

It's hard recovering from the idea of the nausea, but I've actually managed to let my tummy rumble and I survived, lol.

Thanks :)

Im deffo not lucky as i gained 4st with my first :p
With my second i needed to control it more as i was overweight, i used indooe bike as much as i could.
I have to control it again this time, sickness is doing that for me haha.

Plus in 3rd tri you may find you can only small portions more often due to baby butt being in your stomach being it smaller space and generally feeling uncomfortable and full a lot quicker.

Hehe, im sticking to my guess.

I just wanted to pop in and say you look GREAT! Other than your bump, I can't see where that 14 lbs is hiding! Since you aren't fighting nausea anymore, it might be a bit easier to control your eating with lots of veggies and more low cal food. Best of luck!

You look good and your weight gain is perfectly healthy and normal! I'm due in October, too, with a little girl.

Your bump is so neat :) My bump is massive in comparison!

I really wouldn't worry honey.

Thank you all ladies, you've given me such a massive confidence boost!

I normally put on weight so easily and really struggle to lose it so to have gained so much I kind of feel a bit out of control. I've been pretty much losing and gaining back the same 24lb for a few years now and I'm now only a few lb under my heaviest ever weight, so seeing that number on the scale this morning made me panic.

It doesn't help that my pregnancy book says I should only have gained 8-9lb by this point! I know everyone is different, but somehow that doesn't stop the worry. I definitely don't need to eat as much as I did in 1st tri, so have dropped a lot of that, and am making a real effort to make my diet mostly veg, fruit, and healthy protein and carbs, though I do still have a massive weakness for chocolate!

You look lovely, your still tiny! For me at 21 weeks I was a whale!

I had gained 13 lbs at my 24+4 day checkup, but all of that was from first and very beginning of 2nd trimester. My weight has stalled for weeks now. I have taken up walking 3 miles/day, and eating less cals. So, it's not always true that you will keep gaining a lot as time goes on. You look great btw!

You look fab! Your bump is pretty much identical to mine (I'm 20+1) and I've only gained 6lbs... I definitely wouldn't worry, you really do look amazing!

Thank you, lovely ladies <3 I'm still a bit twitchy about it but no longer convinced I'll end up like the Michelin Man ;)
