Hi,

Just had an appointment with my midwife who had a listen to babys hearbeat...took her a while to find it - when she did it was pretty faint and seemed like it was so far away. She said it was nothing to worry about as it is probably just at a strange angle/tucked away . I had the heartbeat checked a few weeks ago as I was in a car accident and it definitely sounded stronger and clearer back then - this is what is making me slightly worried.

I know I should take her advice but sometimes its just reassuring to hear from other mummy-to-be's!

I've got no reason to worry right?

I don't have much advice but didn't want to read and run. I'm sure everything is okay. Sometimes they do get into awkward positions that makes it hard to find the heartbeat. Did she record the bpm? (I think it's bpm?!) if that seemed fine I'm sure baby is okay, just in a difficult position.

Hope someone has some reassuring advice for you, don't worry yourself too much. If the midwife wasn't worried it should all be okay xx

i know im not as far on as you hun but when i find baby with my doppler there are times its really loud and other times i can only jst head it. It really does just depend on how/where baby is laid. xx

I have an anterior placenta, and my babies heartbeat always sounds very muffled and far away because the placenta is in between the baby and my belly. It wasn't like this earlier on though, it started after the placenta really grew and covered baby. I'll bet when you have a scan they'll tell you the same thing.

can i ask hun where did you find baby when you looked? When i find mine i have to lie on my side and when i do find the hb its right beside my hb and the sound of the placenta... if i move the doppler even slightly i loose the babies hb and bk to mine or the placenta sound x

Just popping back from third tri and didn't want to read and run -

Personally, I wouldn't worry to much. Baby can get into some very awkward positions and can get tucked away in small spaces! As long as the heartbeat was nice and constant I wouldn't worry if it was quiet, as baby was probably just tucked away or, as the previous poster said, if you have an anterior placenta that can muffle the heartbeat a bit.

However - if you are worried, phone your midwife hun :) If it's one thing I've learned throughout this and my previous pregnancy, is that it is their job to be there for you. Sure, you may feel like you're bugging them, but this is YOUR pregnancy and YOUR baby, you're the only spokesperson your little bundle has! If you are worried or feel like something may be wrong, always call your midwife. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

I have a doppler at home and my DS brings it to me when he wants to hear his sisters heart beat. Some days I can find her, somedays she is stubborn and in my back area. My placenta is in the back too, so I don't have to try to get through it either.

Just days when she wants to be known and others she doesn't. She also likes to kick it. :)

Don't worry too much, and if it's eating at you, go back to the doctor and even ask for a scan?

I would echo what has been said so far, doesn't mean there is a problem. Faint heartbeat is more likely to be baby in a funny position. My friend had a m/c in her first pregnancy and then midwife couldn't find loud heartbeat during second pregnancy. The midwife team at the hospital were more than happy to have another listen just to reassure her. Get on the phone and you will feel so much better!

What everyone has said so far! I would pay more attention to how fast the heartbeat is compared to how well you can hear it. Like others said, there could be a handful of reasons why you could not hear it as well as before. I am sure everything is just fine, good luck though hun!
