I can't get rid of this fucking thrush. Al I get is pain when I bf, especially on my right side. Yes sometimes it doesn't hurt but it's not fair. You're supposed to like breastfeeding not dread when the next feed is. Quitting is not an option; my OH wants me to bf and my mum is a lactation consultant. Plus my whole family has always breastfed.

Hun only you can decide if you want to quit or not.Its your body , and your going through the pain :hugs:

The pressure must be tough especially as you WANT to BF. Maybe check with your doctor? Stopping is not going to be a bad thing if it is the best thing for you and your baby.

You've done 3 months and done well and it is not your fault if you have to stop. However, maybe your doctor can suggest something else to try to get rid of it.

Good luck!!

Have you tried and natural or holistic type remedies??

I'm taking Manuka Honey for its anti-bacterial properties and I have to say its fought off a potential bad cold really well. I'm gonna take it every day as a supliment now - pricey but hey, it might be worth a try???

:hugs:

I know you are under pressure but its your body. And you have done really well.

I assume your mum has done all she can to help with the thrush?

I wonder is the baby reinfecting you? Is she free of it?

Big ((((hugs)))) you are one strong lady carrying on through this xxxxx

I don't want to quit, I just want it to stop hurting :( And I can't really afford formula anyway

Where abouts can I get that? My next step is long-term Nilstat tablets.

 maybe try what mervs mum suggested and check savannah hasnt got the thrush in her mouth x x

I can get it in the supermarket but health food stores do it too - its from NewZeland so should be easy to get over your side of the world! It comes in different concentrations ie the active ingredient that supposed to have the benefits in it. So you buy the strongest you can afford. The advsor told me 10+ minimum is good for a daily suppliment and should also fight off existing infection. I took a tea spoon a day 2 days after this cold/cough started and it went after 3 days - it never really took hold - and that was all I did that was different to usual. I didnt take any other cough/cold cures.

Might b worth a shot? Google it - theres lots of info out there at the moment :)

edit - I think I paid £8 for 250g

And if she has got thrush, don't bf until you are both clear - you will keep reinfecting eachother xxx

OMG I know exactly what your going through!! Ours started over a month ago now and we had it REALLY bad, it was awful. I'm so for breastfeeding, and untilhe self weans, but I really want o get him past cold and flu season, he's 15mo now so until atleast 18mo. So giving up breastfeeding wsn't an option for me either. I tried prescriptions from the drs, and it didn't work, they only thing that is helping is Gentian Violet. It's purple and it STAINS so be careful. I put it on me then wear nursing pads so it doesn't get on tanything. Your baby's mouth will be purple...looks like they had a grape lollipop lol. But it helps sooo much....and fast. We did have it come back so I'm battling it again, but it is working. Also make sure you boil pacis or nipples from bottles, or clean anything she gets in her mouth really well and keep your bras really clean so you dont keep reinfecting yourself. But really the gentian violet is amazing, it was recommended by tons of other breastfeeding moms, also on kellymom.com and by my pedi

Thanks so much Mervsmum and mummyof3!! It's so great having some good advice, will definatgely go and look for both of those tomorrow.

I have no doubt you will get through this xxx

good luck! hope you get better soon!

Are you sure it's thrush? Only with thrush it hurts whether your feeding or not. If you have thrush both you and LO should be treated at the same time.

Good luck, I really hope it works for you!! I had to check a bunch of stores and ended up having one of the pharmacies order it for me but it got there the next morning, some stores do just carry it though so hopefully you don't have as hard of a time finding it
