Is this normal?! I'm 34 weeks today and my bump is measuring 33cm, she isn't worried though cos i was measuring ahead before so it's evened out.

However when she was feeling around she said babies head is 1/5th engaged. Which I was like WHAT?! I thought something was going on because I've had pressure in my pelvis and some dull aches.

She said not to worry and it's fairly normal but from what I've read online it means the baby might come early.

A few people have comment my bump has dropped too :S

Should I be worried? Anyone have an experience?

Hey - at my 34 week appointment bub was 2/5 engaged and I had dropped back by 2 weeks (measuring 32cm rather than 34cm) and have been bang on all the way through.

We did some looking up on this - and babies can stay engaged for a while! They still have to get to 5/5! and they are just getting ready (and comfy for them!)

To be honest I'm not too worried as I have read people being 3/5 engaged at 33 weeks and still sat there waiting for baby at 41 weeks!!!

And with the size/dropping - as baby moves into your pelvis apparently you are going to get a little smaller because they are lower down?!

Completely normal
At my 34w appointment baby was 1/5 engaged
38w appointment still 1/5 engaged
:) x

It think it's common for first babies to engage early although they can move in and out of engagement. It's common for 2nd 3rd etc babies to NOT engage until last min. At 36wk appointment Io wasn't engaged at all x

Thanks ladies

HE's been head down since 28 weeks pretty much, but I had noticed the last couple of days abit of pressure and shooting pains in my pelvis.

And a few people said my bump looked lower.

Midwife reckons thats why It's a CM behind now because he's dropped down a bit, so it changes the size/shape of your bump.

He's been a bit quieter too but his heartbeat was fine at my appt and she said becoming engaged can slow them down a bit too.

Also I swear our babies love worrying us!!

mine is a hyper baby, alwas kicking, punching etc going crazy.

Yesterday and this morning he was quiet, heartbeat was fine...but Iwas getting worried cos it's unlike him, as soon as i pick up the phone to ring up to think about going into get monitored....

He goes crazy in there!

I am only 32 weeks and baby has been -3 to -2 since 29 weeks when I went into preterm labor. I am only measuring 28-29 weeks along. I didnt need them to check me to know that. I can feel his EVERY move grinding in my pelvis and my cervix.

Yeah I thought I could feel something causing a bit of pressure down there!

It's all good fun...measurements are weird through I had one midwife measure me and I was spot on, then another one and i'm a week ahead or behind, it's silly.

My baby was engaged shortly after you and I am still waiting so no worries. Doesn't mean they will come early at all!

Yeah its the same way when you have two different dr or nurses check your cervix and one says "your 3cm" and another says "oh, your 2 cm" That can be frustrating! LOL.

So is it normal for first baby to still be 3/5 at 39 weeks pregnant? mine hasn't move since.. :S

Yes, Some babies dont "drop" until the very last minute. Be thankful, because carrying them low can be QUITE uncomfortble! LOL

thank you!!!
:D

mine's 3/5 and is already feels heavy down there and really bad when I go to the bathroom at night! lol

Yeah midwife said he might stay 1/5th for ages, i think a lot don't go down at all until they are due....

It is annoying the pressure in the pelvis etc, but it also means cos bumps dropped a bit I can breathe now lol

My little ladt dropped at 32 weeks, at 33 weeks i was told at the hospital that she is 5/5 engaged - my god it hurts!!

do not wish for it to happen earlier, i wish she had stayed up longer, it really hurts!!!

She is a big baby and they always said i was at risk of prem labour, but the hospital said that while most drop and engage 2-4 weeks before some drop right before labour and some ten weeks before and still go full term.

its a bit like when the baby turns head down, some people it happens much earlier, some much later. Doesnt change when they are born!

xx

Yeah from what it seems it'll just happen when its supposed to and the head engaging doesnt mean much lol x
