This is my first pregnancy. The first ultrasound I got, my due date was January 2nd (which would make be 36 weeks and 5 days) and my second ultrasound they bumped my due date to December 22 which would make me like 38 weeks?

I went to the doctor yesterday and they have me at 36 weeks 5 days on their chart but the doctor told me the baby is already measuring 8 pounds!

Is this accurate? I can't imagine him already being 8 pounds. Has anyone else had this same problem? He told me to stay away from sugar for the rest of my pregnancy unless I was a 9 pounder! :O

I was an 8 pound baby and daddy was one ounce from being 9 pounds so I knew he was probably going to be big but I can't imagine him having more than 3 weeks left and already being 8 pounds.

Any advice or suggestions?

Hi i went into hospital at 28 weeks with my son. I had a growth scan at 28 weeks & they said he was 2lbs 9oz already

At 38 weeks i had another growth scan & they estimated him to me 10lbs they said i was looking at a 11lbs+ baby

Big babies run in my family, well i was 8lbs 9oz my brother was 11lbs 6oz. So i was expecting him to be big

I had my son at 39+3 & he was 9lbs 3oz

I dont think those growth scans are that accurate... I know people that have been told that there babies are about 8lbs & they have come out at about 6lbs so BIG difference

My friend was induced last week at 36 weeks due to her baby already measurig 8lb! She turned out to be 8 and a half once born and weighed!

Iv got the same problem, I was measuring 40 weeks at 37 on chart so had a scan that said i have a 10lb baby at 37weeks. Hope they are inaccurate lol. Iv been told that it can be 15% difference either way in the scan, hope mine dosnt go 15% over lol that will smart.

Im 39 weeks now and have a scan planned for my due date with a section if he has gained more than half a pound.

Sure all will be fine for both of us tho xxx

I was told that my first baby was gonna be big and weighed around 8lbs at the 36 weeks mark. He was born at 40+5 days and was 8lb 6oz, so they aren't always so accurate!

Also my sister's first baby was big (9lb 12oz) and they told her that her second wasn't as big and he weighed 10lb 11oz!!

He could be hun, my daughter was 9lb 11oz at birth, so its quite possible she
could have been 8lb at 36-37wks and gained the last pound during the last 2-3 weeks.

Iam expecting this baby to be as big, if not bigger than my daughter, but im
not too worried, i delivered my daughter via episitomy and ventouse using
only gas and air. x

Growth rates can alter too hon, at 33 weeks I was told he was 5lb9oz, today at 36 weeks he is only 6lb10oz.... so on track for a normal size at birth! He may be big now but doesn't mean he'll necessarily keep gorowing at the same rate.

My last baby was supposed to be over 8lb at 35 weeks, being as a I had an unstable pelvis they decided to induce me at 37 weeks so he couldn't get any bigger. He weighed a tiny 7lb 2oz when he was born at 37+1.
My 3rd child was deemed to be average size even though I had been having trouble being able to breathe. He was born at 9lb 81/2oz and 59.9cm long which is the length of a 3 month old. Not exactly average.
This baby is supposed to be measuring small, am not worrying too much given my previous experiences with growth scans.

measurements can be off! my baby was est. at 7.5 and one day later was 6lb 15oz. I was a 10lb 11oz baby....so guess it's not too genetic! lol and I was 6 days overdue!

They told me my bubs was measuring ahead from about 30 weeks and at 35 weeks they said he weighed 8lb already :dohh:

yet he came out two weeks later weighing a tiny 6lb 5! these scans are just guesstimates. don't worry x
