I was so sure this baby (my first) was going to arrive late, but I lost my plug at 37 weeks, and started having cramping and pressure. The doctor checked me out and I'm 2cm dilated, 60-70% effaced... and was told baby will arrive very soon.

Any ideas how soon is "very soon"?

dnt mean to be a downer but i was the same with my first and was 10 days late :( BUT!!!!!!! i have read a lot lately about losing the plug and seems the majority of people can go into labour quite quickly, how long ago did u lose the plug? xx

cat - thanks for your response. You are NOT being a downer - I actually wouldn't mind it if the baby came closer to 40 weeks or a bit late. I lost the plug 3 days ago, when I was about 37+2.

Yeah also don't want to be a downer, but been losing my plug for well over a week. Finally went into early labor on Friday morning, was in the hospital to monitor my contractions. Started having my bloody show and only progressed to 3 and half centimeters. They sent me home and told me to wait it out and it could still be another week at least. They said some women stay at 2-3cm for 2-3 weeks. It really depends how quick you progress. You could be 2cm for 2 more weeks for all you know, or you could progress rather quickly. Just keep your eyes out and just wait it out. xx

i was 2cm for 2weeks with my first (im now feeling like the bringer of bad news!!) x

Eek am prob gonna make it worse but i was 2.5cm for 4 weeks with my first, had lost plug too, dunno bout effacement, wasnt told. Jus a waitin game hun

We're in the same boat, except this is my 3rd child. I figured my body would act like it was a 1st child though because my last delivery was 14 yrs ago. With my first I went in at 39 wks, and to my surprise was 4cm, had her the next morning. Today I went in for my 37 wk exam and Im 3cm 80% effaced. Dr thinks she will come soon but didnt say how soon. Since its been so long since my last baby...I'm a bit clueless on things. But it looks like shes def going to be here before our induction date in 2 wks. Good luck to you!

I've been 2cm, 50% effaced for the past two weeks. Think I lost a little of the plug, too. Going back on Thursday for my 38 week appointment to see if there's any change, but my friend was walking around for weeks at 4cm.

I'm glad to hear your responses. I would actually prefer it if bubs stayed in a little while longer, so the fact that you girls were 2cm dilated and still had 2 weeks to go is reassuring. Thanks!

well I hope your baby stays in for you. I personally want my LO out! lol

I'm officially in labour, and have been since about 2pm yesterday. Guess this baby is ready to come out!

Contractions are a bitch. I progressed from contractions every 20 minutes, to every 6 minutes in a matter of a few hours... but then I am now stuck at contractions every 6 minutes - been stuck in this phase for 12 hours. The contractions are stronger, but the frequency hasn't changed.

I am happy to read this as I lost my plug today (about half an hour ago) after a sweep yesterday and the Dr telling me that my cervix was "very favourable" and baby was "very engaged"... I am hoping things happen for me too as I have three weeks to go into labour before I have to have an elective section as by then baby will probably have grown too big for me to deliver without problems. (I had a previous shoulder dystocia with a large baby).

I can't WAIT for your update telling us that LO is here :) Good luck!

Congrats! Good luck

I was in early labor for 38 hours and then everything stalled. Hope you make it all the way and keep up the good work xx It'll be worth it in the end x

Hope things progress well for you and you're holding your LO soon.

Good luck hun. I can't wait to be in your positon. :)

After losing my plug at 37+0, I went into early labour on 37+2 and delivered our baby girl (yellow bump) on January 11, at 37+3. Guess she was just too eager to come out and see the world!

She was born weighing 6lb10oz and 19.3 inches, with a full head of fuzzy hair! She looks just like her daddy and DH and I are completely in love with her. All in all, labour and delivery went smoothly - will post more details when I have more time!

Congratulations! I love hearing stories about first time moms NOT going overdue! It gives me hope! :haha:
