Hello all,

Lost post warning

My wife and I have no experienced our 3rd lost early pregnancy and found out on Monday.

The 1st pregnancy we found out March 2013 and by April we had to do a D&C because they saw something unusual and a second heart beat at about 9weeks. We were sent to the genetic consular for second thoughts. Turned out there was a set of conjoined twins. With the odds what they are were choose to terminate the pregnancy that same week. My wife was very strong but took it hard and it was difficult until the due date passed. We were told there is no genetic cause for conjoined twins and our next pregnancy will be fine...

The 2nd pregnancy was just last year we found out at the end of June 2014. We went back to the same DR this time and things were on track just fine until the 10w appt. when they measured over 6mm of fluid behind the neck of the baby we were told to come back in 2 weeks to see if it continues to grow or if it stabilizes. At about 14 weeks we were given the the options of tests of a AMENO and CVS. We also went to the same DR who is in Maternal & Fetal Medicine. We did both and the CVS came back positivity for one of the big 3 chromosomal abnormalities. Long story short we did the CVS the following that however the results take 2 weeks to return.. We found out the baby had turner syndrome and would have very difficult pregnancy and would most likely not going to go full term. The D&C was done by the same DR. at the 17 week mark and again told there are no connection to conjoined twins and turner syndrome.

And Now to Monday... We found were expecting and due at the end of November this year. As soon as my wife found out we schedule an appt. with the same DR who had done the D&C to be consular for us and help easy our worries so we went in at about 5-6 week mark to confirm the HPT and they were able to see the yolk sack but no baby so they told us to come back in 10 days to see if things changed. The day before our appt. my wife experienced really serve stomach pains and cramping so we go in to the ER per the nurse on the hot line. They knew we were expecting however they did not test or do an ultra sound to check the baby and diagnosed she had the stomach flu. The next day at our appt they again had trouble and measured the baby to be at about 6 weeks when it should have been around 8 according the LMP They told us to return in 2 weeks( this last Monday) and we should be able to see a heat beat and a fetus growing. They couldn't see a heart beat and the fetal pole measured to about 6wks the bad part our regular DR who had be there for us the last 2 pregnancy was off on Monday. We have talked to her yesterday and she wants us to wait and hopes the miscarriage will happen naturally. Again she doesn't think there is any connection to all 3 cases conjoined, turner, and as we know right now a this.

Has anyone ever heard of the such a difference in causes for these to happen?

Gosh, I am so very sorry for the great losses you and your wife have experienced.
I'm sorry I don't have any advice. I've had 2 mc's, and I know a lot of times they say to just keep trying, and future pregnancy should work out fine. Is there a specialist nearby you both can go to for a second opinion on what your current doctors have said?
Again, I am sorry and sending healing thoughts your way. Take care.

I'm so sorry for you losses. I have had two losses, one ectopic and one MMC. We do not know what caused the MMC (or the ectopic for that matter). So far they've told me it's just really unfortunate, most of the time due to a "random genetic mutation" as they put it. The ward sister in the early pregnancy unit explained to me that when an egg has 23 chromosomes and a sperm 23 chromosomes. When egg and sperm meet these chromosomes needs to pair off 1-1,2-2...and so on. To do so over 250 electrical signals are sent so that the chromosomes pair off correctly. This a whole lot of signals! Basically these signals occasionally get muddled and the wrong chromosomes pair off.. Which creates a flaw in the "blueprint" causing baby not to develop properly. Most of the time this is what causes a miscarraige and its so random it really is just bad luck most of the time for this to happen. And that's what it sounds like in your case, I wouldn't suggest any other reason such as hormone or immune disorder in your case (although might be wrong I'm no expert by any means). Also factor in that not every egg is perfect, and not every sperm is perfect, and that too can cause problems. I dunno if any of that helps I guess what I'm trying to say is it's just really bad luck and hopefully you will have your rainbow baby soon- there will hopefully be no real reason why you can't have a healthy pregnancy at some point soon. I myself asked the doctor why I had had two different types of loss... She said it was just unfortunate. She also said in people with more than 3 consecutive losses they do testing to see if there is a possible cause but most of the time tests show now real issue.. I beleive the figure of these couples that go for testing and find a real issue is only 25%- again this suggests to me that most of the time it's just luck of the draw rather than anything actually wrong. Wish I could offer more insight. Miscarriage is an awful thing for anyone to go through. Lots of luck for the future for you both.

Hi mw. I'm so sorry for your losses. I have also had 3 losses with 3 different reasons. My 1st was a blighted ovum @9wks measuring 5. My 2nd was identical twins lost to twin to twin transfusion @14wks. And my 3rd was a mmc @11wks-testing showed no reason for that loss. In some ways having reasons makes things easier to understand and not having reasons makes it harder to try again. With my 3rd pg I was so worrued about it being twins again I almost forgot about the mc risk. Afraid I don’t have any words of wisdom re trying again but wish you luck.x

My thoughts go out to you and your wife at this time. :hugs:

Unfortunately I don't have any advice and I don't know enough about conjoined twins and turners syndrome. It makes sense to me that what your doctor said is true - there's no connection between them. It seems as though with each pregnancy, sadly something just went wrong for no real reason.

I wish you both the best of luck and pray next time brings a healthy baby. :flower:
